The heartbeat of Camp Firwood lies in the hands and feet of our incredible counselors – and that could be you! If you're up for the challenge. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to nurture and guide a group of 8 campers each week. You'll be the maestro of activity classes, the captain of group games, and the storyteller of daily Bible studies, all aimed at helping kids explore, encounter, and engage with Jesus!
But that's not all! You'll also be paired with a Counselor In Training – take them under your wing, share your wisdom, and help them blossom into fantastic counselors. It's not just about the job; it's about making a real impact. Ready to make a difference?
What is Camp Firwood?
Located on 120 acres on the shores of Lake Whatcom, Camp Firwood has been welcoming campers to experience the love of Jesus Christ since 1954. A ministry of The Firs, Camp Firwood is an overnight camp for campers grade 3-12. Learn more at our website at campfirwood.org.
Duties
- Supervise and engage with campers during daily activities, ensuring their safety and well-being.
- Plan, organize, and lead age-appropriate games, crafts, sports, and other recreational activities.
- Foster a positive and inclusive camp environment that promotes teamwork, respect, and personal growth.
- Provide guidance and support to campers in developing social skills, problem-solving abilities, and self-confidence.
- Assist with the implementation of behavior management strategies to ensure a positive camp experience for all participants.
- Collaborate with other camp staff to coordinate schedules, manage group dynamics, and address any concerns or issues that may arise.
Qualifications
- Active follower of Christ.
- Able to take initiative.
- Enjoys helping kids learn and grow.
- A willingness to be wild and crazy doesn't hurt.
- Previous experience working with children in a tutoring, daycare, theater, sports coaching, or classroom management setting is preferred.
- Knowledge of childhood development principles and techniques for behavior management.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with children, parents/guardians, and fellow staff members.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment while also demonstrating initiative and leadership skills.
- Understanding of Christian counseling principles .
- Minimum age requirement: 18 years old
Schedule
- All Staff Training: June 16-22
- Session A: June 23 - July 28
- Session B: July 27 - August 24
- Full summer: June 16 - August 24
