Summary of Job Description The Substitute Teacher supports a classroom's regular teaching staff in implementing class activities and projects. Substitutes engage students in inquiry and exploration and maintain a safe and nurturing environment for students under the guidance of the Teachers, Lead Teacher(s), and HeadTeacher(s). A key piece of the Substitute's role is the flexibility to adapt to different programs and their routines Responsibilities/Duties Fill in for regular teaching staff during absences, on a long or short-term basis Clearly and effectively communicate with teachers, administrative staff, and Directors regarding their availability and shift times Support class activities and projects according to class structure, with guidance from classroom teachers, or lead lessons prepared by the regular teacher Engage students in a nurturing manner that uses open-ended questions and positive guidance techniques; facilitate games and activities with students Be knowledgeable of and follow school policies, protocols, and expectations Create a physically safe and attractive classroom environment Help maintain classroom and garden through cleaning, organization, and yard work Consult with Head Teacher or other appropriate teacher(s) when uncertain about how to handle a situation Perform other duties as assigned Benefits Staff Lunch Provided Daily Collaborative Work Environment Qualifications At least 12 Early Childhood Education units or equivalent; 6 units may be acceptable if actively taking more classes to complete the 12 units Teachers with less than 12 units have 1 school year to complete, at least 3 units, or will not be offered a position the following year.
