Job description

The Research Scientist II (RS II) (Epidemiology/Biostatistics) works under the general supervision of the Research Scientist Supervisor I (Epidemiology/Biostatistics), Chief, Epidemiology and Evaluation Unit. The RS II plans, organizes, and carries out epidemiological research studies of moderate scientific scope and complexity and participates in the development, implementation, and management of formative research and program evaluation studies focused on Substance Use, misuse, addiction, and overdose prevention interventions. The RS II will use epidemiological research methods to evaluate data sources, develop scientific indicators and tools, conduct scientific studies, conduct analyses, and write up reports, data briefs, and manuscripts for dissemination to diverse audiences. The RS II will be responsible for ensuring the scientific quality of all administrative and research reporting requirements. Light in-state travel will be required. Some overnight stays may be required.
This position is eligible for telework in accordance with CDPH's Telework Policies and Procedures.
This is a 12 month Limited-Term Full-Time position that may be extended or become Permanent.

The Substance and Addiction Prevention Branch (SAPB), within the Center for Healthy Communities, aims to reduce individual, social, and environmental harm from addiction and Substance Use through research-driven prevention, education, and treatment. SAPB houses CDPH's youth cannabis prevention, alcohol, overdose, and problem gambling programs, creating synergy between Substance Use and Addiction prevention efforts. In addition to efforts related to addiction and Substance Use, SAPB examines a wide range of societal, community, and social influences on individual consumption and the resulting social and behavioral outcomes.
