Description of primary duties and responsibilities::

Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit:

The Office of Scholarships & Financial Aid maintains the university standard for providing outstanding student financial aid services. The Office of Scholarships & Financial Aid strives to maximize available funding and exercise good stewardship per the United States Department of Education and the North Carolina State Education Assistance Authority. The
continuous goals are to assist in the recruitment and retention of students, improve service to students, and support long-range enrollment and campus planning goals.
Primary Purpose of the Position:

To provide exemplary financial aid counseling and customer service skills to students and the community. To advise students of the total financial aid application process in determining federal, state, and institutional eligibility. This position is responsible for guiding students and parents through the required forms needed to apply for financial aid, requesting documents from students/parents as needed to complete aid applications, reviewing and entering documents when received, and verifying the accuracy of financial aid information submitted for a specific population of students.

Description of Work Continued::

Financial Aid Counseling – 45%
The employee will provide financial aid counseling services and workshops to students and parents concerning the financial aid application process; assists with the review of financial aid applicants for the process of verification to determine budgets, need and funding eligibility; Coordinate and certify the State Grant Program and weekly reconcile this program against Banner to ensure updates are correctly noted; Satisfactory Academic Progress review, update and reconciliation. This position will be responsible for counseling and awarding students on need-based state and federal financial aid. It is necessary to know how to award need-based aid, since merit-based aid can affect how much need-based aid is given to a student. Ability to independently initiate or implement new approaches and policies to resolve non-standard problems and issues of broad scope and complexity. Ability to resolve issues that are unprecedented in nature and may have far reaching impact. Ability to develop new, innovative approaches to address and improve current and future programs, processes, and procedures. Ability to develop multifaceted reports for use in a variety of areas within Student Services. Ability to provide expertise in main area of focus. Ability to evaluate accomplishments of the unit to ensure program missions and goals are being met. Ability to make final review for most difficult, controversial, or sensitive work to assess and problem solve.
Aid Awarding -35%
This position will be responsible for all awarding of federal, state, and institutional aid to the targeted student population. Award Verification: This position will check student eligibility for awards to make sure that the established criteria are being met. This eligibility tracking is done each time an award is made. Students are notified of eligibility or non-eligibility through formal letters and other communication. Providing Excellent Customer Service: Provide accurate information to customers via in person, over the phone pertaining to the eligibility of federal assistance. Conducting financial aid workshops and seminars on campus by explaining the total financial process from the FAFSA submission to final awarding of federal, state, and institutional funds. Demonstrates good customer service to students, colleagues, staff, and campus community. Verify financial aid applications and documents to ensure eligibility is determined and the correct aid is going to the correct student. Coordinate, adjust and certify state grants to determine eligibility. Perform other duties as assigned by their supervisor based on business.
Customer Service/Knowledge of Program – 20%To provide exemplary financial aid counseling and customer service skills to students and the community. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements::

Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
