Purpose of Position

The purpose of the Student Disability Resources Coordinator is to support the missions of the department. The Coordinator will consult with students, faculty and staff, using a case-by-case, interactive process to identify, coordinate, monitor and evaluate reasonable accommodations based on disability and other student services functions. This is a specialized and skilled position that requires knowledge in student development, Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. This position makes independent decisions on a daily basis to ensure access to the educational opportunities provided to students at the University of North Dakota.
This position works closely with and provides support to the Director and in working with the senior leadership team of the Division of Academic Affairs, including the academic deans and other campus partners, to execute accessibility for students.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Determine eligibility for registration with Student Disability Resources by collecting and reviewing documentation of disability and interviewing students.
  • Using an interactive process to assess student needs and identify appropriate accommodations based on student input, documentation and the academic environment.
  • Provide ongoing consult to student for planning, implementing and evaluating identified accommodations.
  • Identify appropriate disability-related or other services and refer when necessary.
  • Keep departmental records current and accurate following established department guidelines.
  • Consult and collaborate with UND faculty, staff, and non- university entities on disability issues.
  • Manage and monitor delivery of student accommodations.
  • Perform special projects as assigned by the Director.
  • Assist in managing the department software for Student Disability Resources

  • Serve as point person for accommodations utilizing technology, specifically post production captioning, CART, E-Text, accessible textbooks, notes, sign-language interpreting, and others as necessary.
  • Manage and monitor delivery of student accommodations.
  • Maintain knowledge and database of available vendors, their services, and procedures for accommodations.
  • Perform special projects as assigned.
  • Train students and faculty/staff on accommodation resources, technologies, and procedures including in-person and on-line.
  • Collaborate with other staff members to develop and carry out appropriate strategies and action steps needed to accomplish institutional goals and priorities as they relate to student development.
  • Serve as a positive representative of the Student Disability Resources & Academic Support team and contribute to creating an optimistic and enthusiastic workplace culture that challenges and energizes students and personnel to reach higher levels of personal and professional excellence and achievement through the fostering of teamwork, collaborative decision-making, and effective communication.
  • Provides support to the Director and colleagues in the development of a strategic plan, goals and objectives for the department.
  • Provides support to the Director in developing outreach and marketing materials used for website, print and social media.
  • Provides support to the Director for the development and distribution of reports and assessments that will assist the department and University stakeholders in the ability to work with students more effectively.
  • Ensures all correspondence and reports produced on behalf of the department are accurate and consistent.
  • Relates effectively to and serves as a resource and liaison to students, parents, faculty and administration and handles difficult and volatile situations with tact and diplomacy.
  • Develops and maintains liaison and collaborative relationships with University offices such as Housing, University Police, University Counseling Center, Student Health and Wellness, Registrar, Admissions, Athletics, academic advisors, deans, etc.
  • Represents the department on and provides leadership to University and Divisional committees, as assigned.
  • Represents the Director as appropriate.
  • Assumes other responsibilities as designated by the Director.
  • Attend and participate in relevant professional development opportunities (i.e. conferences and/or workshops) to stay up to date on research, best practices, and to network with colleagues across the country on relevant trends in disability services, higher education, student development, assessment, and academic support.
Required Competencies
  • A strong understanding of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.
  • A strong understanding in the requirements of (FERPA) Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and leadership skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex administrative processes effectively and efficiently.
  • Demonstrated leadership in comprehensive project management.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across all institutional lines including a proven record of effective working relationships with faculty, athletics, law enforcement and service agencies.
  • The demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with a diverse community of students, faculty, staff and family members and the ability to handle difficult and volatile situations with tact and diplomacy.
  • Demonstrated understanding of issues facing diverse student populations in higher education.
  • Appreciation and commitment to a research institution which provides a liberal arts education coupled with strong professional programs.
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree, May 2024 graduates will be considered.
  • 2 years’ related experience and a commitment to working with diverse student populations
  • Experience with private and sensitive student data including testing records.
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Higher Education or related field.
  • Previous professional work experience in a higher education setting.
  • Previous professional work experience with Student Disability services.
