Position Summary
Welder Level 1 sets up and operates our welding machines for .035 hard wire in the process of GMAW. A Welder Level 1 must be competent in using potentially dangerous equipment following all safety precautions. In this position the welder will also have a steady hand and great attention to detail.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Control and adjust machine settings to complete welding tasks accurately, according to specifications, and in a timely fashion.
- Uses overhead crane, powered forklifts, and pallet jacks to shuttle processed material from “Processing Area” to weld area(s).
- Determine the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements
- Responsible for deburring all parts with sharp edges.
- Shuttles and bands completed parts to pallets or yard for shipping.
- Uses labeling system to maintain proper I.D. markings for steel.
- Welder Level 1 typically report to a Shop Lead.
- Maintains weld areas “DAILY” by wrapping up leads, cords, putting away grinders, putting tools in toolboxes, putting scrap steel in scrap barrels, thoroughly sweeping weld area as needed.
- Responsible for meeting production timelines set by Shop Lead.
- Works under the close direction of Shop Lead, senior personnel, and or Welder Level 2 in the functional area.
- Can read a tape accurately to a 16th of an inch.
- Possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects welding and it’s processes.
- Travel to job sites may be required
- May require 0-1 year of general work experience.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret blueprints, architectural drawings, design drawings, customer specifications, professional journals, technical procedures.
- Ability to read, write, speak and listen analyze, and interpret written and oral instruction
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
- Must be an individual that pays keen attention to even the smallest of details
- Must have good judgement and decision-making abilities
