Job Description:
Summary:
The position involves working with multidisciplinary project teams providing Structural Engineering and related technical expertise for industrial clients, primarily in the mining, mineral processing, manufacturing, and power industries. Project assignments include design and analysis of structural elements, project management, mentoring of less experienced staff, preparation of plans and specifications, report writing, cost estimating, and construction observation. The work may at times require short-term, out-of-town work assignments. This position also includes an active role in client service and business development. Business development activities may include proactively communicating with clients during project engagements, marketing leads, and project opportunities; developing proposals and presentations; and networking and working to inform clients of Barr’s capabilities.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in civil or Structural Engineering (including structural analysis and steel and concrete design)
10+ years of related work experience, specifically in design and analysis related to mining, mineral processing, manufacturing and power industries
Professional engineer (PE) certified or ability to obtain PE within one year
Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
Willingness to work in a project team environment that encourages self-initiative
A flexible working style as required to meet deadlines and/or client needs
Demonstrated project organization and management skills
Work experience with Structural Engineering analysis software such as RISA 3D, STAAD Pro, or MathCAD
Legal authorization to work in the country without the need for sponsorship
Acceptable driving record
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with 3D software such as Revit or supervising staff working in this software
Experience with multidisciplinary teams including coordination of deliverables between disciplines
Strong technical skills in a wide range of structural analysis and design
Experience in the consulting industry
Demonstrated ability to work independently and with teams including multiple disciplines
Demonstrated ability to lead project work, schedule and delegate tasks, and mentor less experienced staff
Demonstrated business development and client relationship development skills
A hybrid or remote work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office; a remote arrangement refers to working primarily from a home office. This position is to be performed remotely or hybrid within the state of Missouri.
