WORK OPTION: 4 day/week in the NY Office

This is a temporary position with an expected duration not to exceed (10) months. 

 

Essential Functions and Job Summary
The Strategy and Operations Chief of Staff to the Chief Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer will play a pivotal role in supporting, developing, and executing DEI strategies, optimizing departmental operations, and driving inclusivity policies, programs, and initiatives throughout the NBA's League Office. We seek to ensure the DEI department operates efficiently and effectively while demonstrating the value of people at the core.

 

The work of this role is performed primarily in person as it relates to engagement with internal stakeholders.  

 

Major Responsibilities

  • Process Optimization: Identify opportunities to enhance and streamline DEI operational processes and workflows. Determine framework and governance model for Employee Resource Groups (ERT) integration and event cadence. 
  • Strategic Planning and Advisement: Collaborate closely with the CDO to shape and implement DEI strategies and OKMs for assessing progress.
  • Data Analysis: Partner with HR and Marketing to analyze DEI and fan data and metrics to identify trends, and challenges, and determine opportunities for business impact and improvements. Develop visual articulation (eg PPT) to support findings and recommendations.
  • Metrics and Reporting: Review and evaluate current Scorecards and report on the progress of DEI programming. Determine cadence for leadership report outs and participation in appropriate meetings.
  • Executive Communication: Develop and review executive communications ensuring the voice of the CDO. Coordinate internal communications related to DEI priorities, including progress updates, reports, and partnerships with internal and external communications for a public-facing DEI narrative.
  • Business Outcomes, Innovation, and Best Practices: Bring in industry knowledge, global and national trends, best practices, data, innovative strategies that showcase DEI and demonstrated ability to drive belongingness.  


Required Education/Professional Experience

  • Bachelor's degree required, advanced degree preferred (e.g. business, organizational development, HR, Sociology).
  • Experience in a Chief of Staff or executive support role.
  • 7-10 years of supervisory experience leading highly productive teams.
  • Demonstrated successful outcomes of previous DEI work.

 

Required Skills/Knowledge Attributes

  • Experience in DEI talent attraction and programs, building and executing DEI strategies, diverse talent sourcing recruiting, and partnerships.  
  • Excellent client service skills and the capacity to understand multiple business units.
  • Strong project management skills with demonstrated ability to effectively build optimization into process workflow.
  • High level of integrity in maintaining sensitive and confidential information.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and cultivate relationships at various managerial levels for both internal clients and external strategic partners.
  • Curiosity and desire to understand business drivers, labor trends, and hiring practices.
  • Personal attributes which include having a confident and professional executive presence.
  • Ability to inspire others to action through demonstrated strong communication (verbal and written), presentation, relationship-building, and social skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and creative skills and the ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analysis.
  • Ability to inspire and thrive in a fast-paced highly matrixed environment.

 

Salary Range: $5,700 - $6,300/bi-weekly
