Well-established, premier manufacturer is seeking a StrategicPurchasing Managerto drive initiatives for their purchasing and material scheduling department at this complex manufacturing location. The qualified individual will report to Vice President and supply critical market information to the senior management team to assist in making sound planning decisions. This position will have direct and indirect reports. You will be responsible for the following tasks:
- Support, manage, develop and coach the purchasing and scheduling team
- Develop and improve policies and procedures for the department based on heavy analysis, market trends and cost
- Review and monitor projected sales forecasts and anticipate challenges and problems in the material pipeline
- Lead adjustments to the schedule based on changes in work schedules
- Extract data from the company ERP system in order to complete detailed analysis on scheduling and inventory issues
- Participate in monthly sales and operations leadership team meetings
- Lead weekly staff meetings to discuss short-term and long-term goals and objectives for the department
- Support staff with troubleshooting scheduling issues and concerns
- Consult on supplier contracts and ensure strong vendor relations
- Champion presentations to the senior management team related to forecasts, budgets, trends and market analysis
- Oversee the annual budget and annual spend for the department
- Monitor market trends related to commodities and freight and supply sound recommendations to the senior management team
- Other duties as directed by the CEO
Candidates should be able to troubleshoot and analyze the purchasing and scheduling processes. This role is highly strategic and will work closely with sales, operations and engineering team members. Qualified candidates will be promotable, team oriented, flexible, adaptable to changing priorities and be able to create buy-in. Candidates should be able to build relationships with their peers and the management team while being patient during the learning and onboarding process. Candidates must possess the skill set to lead a team of highly performing material professionals.

Travel will be higher at first to meet key suppliers, including international travel with team members, and will level out to 10-20% annual travel. THIS POSITION IS NOT HYBRID; it is required to be on site daily!
REQUIREMENTS for the StrategicPurchasing Manager:
1. Bachelor's degree, ideally in a related field
2. Minimum of five years in a similar Strategic Purchasing position
3. Experience working in manufacturing environments; complex manufacturing is highly preferred
4. Supervision of materials professionals
5. Experience leading a team with an annual spend of at least 10M
6. Experience leading a team that has worked with at least 50-100 suppliers
7. Strong troubleshooting/problem solving skills related to materials, planning, purchasing, scheduling, etc.
8. ERP experience
9. Willing to travel domestically and internationally up to 10-20% of the time
10. Microsoft Office, specifically Excel
Skills preferred but NOT required:
1. Global sourcing experience
2. Experience overseeing direct and indirect reports
3. Certifications
4. Strong mechanical aptitude
5. ERP implementation
