Initially, this position will require an initial office presence for onboarding and training, five days a week for a month. Then it will transition to hybrid, with two days a week in the office and the remaining days remote. As a result, only local candidates will be considered for this position.
Job Summary
We're looking for someone to join our team as a Strategic Initiatives Manager, in support of the Sleep Research Society (SRS.) The SRS, a specialty society managed by the AASM, is an organization for scientific investigators who educate and research sleep and circadian science. Their mission is to advance sleep and circadian science to cultivate knowledge and optimize health and well-being. The Strategic Initiatives Manager will plan, implement, and execute initiatives that support the strategic plan of the Sleep Research Society. These initiatives are both inward-facing to improve operations, and outward-facing to improve the member experience.
The ideal candidate is an experienced associational management professional with a CAE. They have a strategic and analytical mindset, can manage multiple projects with success, and work well in a collaborative and independent work environment.
Responsibilities and Duties
  • Directs and manages projects, and initiatives assigned by the Executive Director from idea through implementation
  • Review and assess current volunteer activities and recommend areas for improvement;
  • Review current member initiatives and recommend areas for improvement;
  • Assess new product opportunities and present findings to Executive Director;
  • Assess budgetary impact of potential new activities;
  • Develop and execute implementation plans for new initiatives;
  • Draft communications plans to highlight new activities and initiatives to the membership;
  • Assist in managing the overall communications of the SRS;
  • Serve as primary staff liaison to task forces appointed by the Board of Directors;
  • Develop meeting agendas, prepare meeting materials, and writing meeting minutes;
  • Communicate with board members and committee members on a regular basis;
  • Monitor and facilitate meeting follow-up actions on behalf of the Executive Committee and Board of Directors;
  • Develop dashboards to track metrics for ongoing activities related to the SRS strategic plan;
  • Serve as a resource for SRS Society Coordinators;
  • Assist SRS Executive Director with duties related to new initiatives and other responsibilities as assigned;
  • 5% travel is required with this position for board meetings and society sponsored events, which includes weekends.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Bachelor's Degree (B.A. or B.S.) from a four-year college or university, will accept a combination of education and prior work experience
  • Seven years of association management experience or similar qualified experience running committees and working with Boards of Directors for an association,
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, planning, and problem solving skills with the ability to prioritize and complete multiple projects under stringent deadlines, and respond to changing priorities;
  • An excellent problem solver, able to take disparate sets of quantitative and qualitative data and drive innovative solutions;
  • Experience in managing multiple committees and developing agendas and related materials for committee meetings
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Strong organizational and project management skills;
  • Solid interpersonal acuity and ability to work professionally with a multitude of personalities;
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively while interacting professionally with staff and society members with minimal supervision;
  • Working knowledge and understanding of Microsoft Office.

  • Experience with Association Management software;
  • Experience in analyzing financial statements and budgets.
