Job description

Pursuit is a social impact organization that creates economic transformation for high-need, high-potential individuals through our technical training programs. We are not just another coding boot camp. We are a mission-driven organization that goes beyond technical instruction to offer coaching, career development, and employer partnerships that help our Fellows secure high-paying software engineering jobs and thrive in their new careers.

We are One Big Team

The passionate and collaborative team at Pursuit gives its all to achieve our mission. And it's not just staff. We work with employer partners that love hiring our Fellows because they are so well prepared, ranging from big financial firms to scrappy startups, and everything in between. We also activate and engage hundreds of volunteers that come from all areas of the tech industry. These experts and professionals help keep our curriculum fresh and our standards for achievement high by participating in our admissions process, as well as program-specific activities such as interview training, DemoDays, Hackathons, and Capstone projects. Please be sure to review our company values, posted on our website, which will help provide further context on additional concepts that impact how we work here at Pursuit.

About the Role:

The Strategic Grant Writer Associate will support the creation of high-quality proposals, impact reports, and additional partner-facing materials focused on direct revenue solicitation. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Strategic Proposals, this role will have a broad impact on the full lifecycle of strategic partnerships, from identifying and qualifying new leads to drafting proposals, supporting materials, partnership pitches, and reports. This role sits on the Partnerships and Business Development team, working alongside business development, fundraising, and account management to advance new and existing partnerships. This role will provide critical support to a variety of funding opportunities, helping drive the team's ambitious revenue targets for 2024 and beyond.

About you:

You are an outstanding writer, first and foremost. Your writing is accurate, precise, cohesive, coherent, and persuasive. You can adapt your writing style to speak to specific audiences. You can synthesize multiple sources of information, weaving together context, concept, and impact for various stakeholders. You work well navigating ambiguity. You ask well-posed questions to clarify concepts and get to the root of a problem. You can organize and structure the details of a comprehensive project or argument. You are empathetic, diplomatic, and approachable to others. You take the initiative and are eager to support our One Big Team. You have a growth mindset. You are passionate about solving socioeconomic problems. You value diversity and make every effort to be inclusive-with teammates, external partners, and our community of Fellows.

** A writing sample of your choosing is required as part of the application for this role. Thank you!

Responsibilities:

  • Draft, revise, and otherwise assist in the preparation and submission of strategic proposals and reports to deepen and expand philanthropic partnerships

  • Work with the Senior Manager, Strategic Proposals and other opportunity owners to understand partner objectives and fit key messages to specific audiences, with both existing and new donors
  • Collaborate with PBD, Business Operations, External Affairs, and other teams to align cross-functional efforts to cultivate key funding opportunities
  • Attend internal team and external partner meetings, taking detailed notes and identifying actionable next steps as needed
  • Provide administrative support and help maintain a tidy database and writing repository in Salesforce and Google Drive
  • Support efforts to become the social impact organization of choice in NYC

Requirements:

  • Research, analysis, and strategy
    • Help identify opportunities and qualify them with in-depth research and network analysis
    • Map relationships to assist opportunity owners in the planning and cultivation
  • Critical thinking
    • Grasp, explain, and connect the various pieces of our integrated model-e.g. community development, job training, sustainable program financing, and hiring partnerships
    • Evaluate and address the needs and interests of the various stakeholders in our many-sided marketplace model-e.g. Fellows, community partners/nonprofits, government officials, employer partners, philanthropic funders, impact investors, etc.
  • Project management
    • Update records in Salesforce and organize materials in Drive to help maintain a pipeline of opportunities
    • Adapt as needed to shifting priorities
