Position Overview
The Illinois Department of Public Health is seeking a highly motivated individual to perform the duties of Storekeeper 2. Under direction, coordinates large scale storekeeping in the Department of Public Health Chicago laboratory involving the receipt, storage and distribution of a large and varied stock of clinical and environmental sample collection materials and shipping materials.
Job Responsibilities
1. Orders laboratory supplies based on management approved purchase orders.
- Receives laboratory supplies according to written procedures provided by management which include documentation of receipts.
- Travels to deliver supplies and samples to appropriate laboratory test areas within the facility based on package labeling.
2. Maintains inventories of collection devices for environmental and clinical samples for laboratory testing.
- Monitors and records temperatures of clinical collection materials and supplied to be sent to clinics for testing clinical specimens.
- Coordinates the pick-up and delivery of mail, including driving to US Post Office to retrieve or post laboratory mail.
3. Places orders of laboratory supplies, and equipment as approved by laboratory management for testing clinical and environmental samples.
- Maintains records of supply and equipment ordered, providing documentation for accounting procedures.
- Contact vendors as requires for accurate pricing.
4. Prepares proper packaging and distribution of clinical samples and environmental samples of federal agencies for testing, including bio-terrorism agents, according to publish requirements of the International Aviation Transportation Agency, the US Department of Transportation, and other regulating bodies for shipping hazardous materials.
5. Coordinates physical inventories of laboratory equipment among laboratory supervisors against agency lists of state and federally purchased equipment records, reports discrepancies reported to supervisors to management.
6. Using prepared database records of previous requests for supplies, estimates stock needed to maintain supplies for clinics performing clinical testing and health departments providing environmental samples for testing.
7. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four years high school.
- Requires two years’ experience in the keeping of stores and electronic store records.
Conditions of Employment
- Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties.
- Requires appropriate, valid driver’s license.
