The Illinois Department of Public Health is seeking a highly motivated individual to perform the duties as Storekeeper 1. Under general supervision, operates the central laboratory storeroom of the public health laboratory in receiving, storing and distributing laboratory and office supplies and performing routine clerical record keeping.

Essential Function 1

Maintains stores inventory, receives, records, and prepares orders for replacement stock when authorized.

  • Takes inventory.
  • Keeps store secure.
  • Utilizes laboratory database in the update\maintenance of storekeeping records.

Essential Function 2

Receives, unpacks, and checks all incoming supplies for prescribed specifications and damages and stores such in properly designated area.

Essential Function 3

Issues supplies from stockroom upon written or oral requests.

  • Delivers supplies to various sections of the laboratory.
  • Arranges for the pickup and delivery of laboratory equipment from airports, freight terminals, warehouses and manufactures supply centers.

Essential Function 4

Prepares and ships laboratory supplies to other regional laboratories via United Parcel Service and Parcel Post as required.

  • Operates activities of the mailroom and the preparation of containers.
  • Packs/wraps goods to be shipped.
  • Updates and maintains records/receipts.

Essential Function 5

Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of those enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications 1

Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four years high school.

Minimum Qualifications 2

Requires one year experience in the keeping of stores and stores records.

Preferred Qualifications 1

Working knowledge of storekeeping and warehousing methods and procedures in the receipt,
storage, and shipment of a variety of goods.

Preferred Qualifications 2

Working knowledge of shipping and receiving biohazardous materials.

Preferred Qualifications 3

One year experience preparing orders for replacement stock.

Preferred Qualifications 4

One year experience with electronic spreadsheets and inventory management systems.

Preferred Qualifications 5

Elementary knowledge of purchasing and requisitioning procedures.

Preferred Qualifications 6

One year experience unloading delivery vehicles and routing packages to the intended area.
