Position Summary:

The Sterile Processing Technician plays a critical role in ensuring the safety and quality of patient care at our Ambulatory Surgery Center. This position is responsible for the decontamination, sterilization, and distribution of medical instruments and equipment used in surgical procedures. The Sterile Processing Technician is a vital part of our healthcare team, contributing to the well-being of our patients by maintaining the highest standards of infection control and patient safety.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Properly decontaminate, clean, disinfect, and sterilize surgical instruments and equipment in accordance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Inspect all instruments and equipment for cleanliness, functionality, and completeness before packaging and distribution.
  • Maintain accurate records of inventory levels, order supplies as needed, and ensure the availability of sterile instruments for surgical procedures.
  • Adhere to all infection control protocols and regulations to maintain a safe and sterile environment in the surgery center.
  • Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting of sterilization equipment to ensure their proper functioning.
  • Maintain accurate records of sterilization cycles, instrument tracking, and quality control procedures.
  • Collaborate with surgical and nursing staff to fulfill instrument needs and ensure efficient surgical procedures.
  • Participate in ongoing education and training to stay updated on best practices and advancements in Sterile Processing.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Certification as a Sterile Processing Technician preferred.
  • Previous experience in Sterile Processing or healthcare setting is a plus.
  • Knowledge of sterilization techniques, infection control, and medical terminology.
  • Familiarity with sterilization equipment, such as autoclaves and ultrasonic cleaners.

Knowledge, Competencies & Skills:

  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow strict procedures and protocols.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Understanding of sterilization and decontamination processes.
  • Knowledge of infection control principles and standards.
  • Proficiency in maintaining accurate records and documentation.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Adaptability to changing demands and fast-paced surgical environments.
  • Must demonstrate a caring, compassionate, and patient attitude.
  • Maintain HIPAA compliance.
  • Ability to type 40 Words Per Minute.

  • Ability to travel to other sites as necessary.

Physical Requirements for the Job:

  • Able to sit, stand and or walk throughout the day.
  • Intermittently required to stoop, bend, speak, and listen.
  • Manual dexterity to handle delicate instruments and equipment.
  • Visual acuity for inspecting instruments and reading labels.
  • Tolerance for exposure to cleaning agents and bodily fluids.
  • Frequent lifting and/or moving of objects weighing up to 10 pounds and occasional lifting and/or moving of objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
