Dr. SPD, LLC is seeking Sterile Processing Technicians
JOB SUMMARY
Sterile Processing Technician decontaminates, operationally checks, assembles, sterilizes, and distributes surgical instrumentation, implants, supplies, and equipment for the OR, Nursing Units, and Ancillary Departments. Sterile Processing Technician maintains documentation related to these duties and assists in the training of other Sterile Processing Technicians. A Sterile Processing Technician operates and maintains sterilization equipment, decontamination equipment, and computer systems related to these duties.
DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Assemble and package surgical procedure instrument sets following protocols established by electronic count sheets, professional standards, and other documentation from a variety of surgical specialties under minimal supervision. Operationally check instrumentation for functionality and cleanliness.
Decontaminate surgical procedure instrument sets following protocols established by electronic count sheets, professional standards, and other documentation from a variety of surgical specialties under minimal supervision. Decontaminate and operationally check patient equipment for the OR and ancillary departments according to established protocols through the competent utilization of a variety of cleaners, disinfectants, and machinery. Maintain appropriate records of receipt and disinfection of key instruments and equipment.
Operate and maintain sterilization and disinfection equipment according to established protocols and professional standards. Maintain sterilization documentation related to items processed, quality assurance, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
Dispense sterile supplies to appropriate locations in the OR, ER, Labor & Delivery and other locations. Maintain sterile inventory through par level maintenance, stock rotation, and quality assurance. Maintain documentation related to material dispensation including logs, schedules, and electronic systems.
Maintain timely and efficient process flows through communication with outside departments and Sterile Processing Technicians in other assignments. Train and assist other Sterile Processing Technicians in the duties listed above.
OTHER FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
May be required to relieve the Sterile Processing Technician III of his or her duties when the SPD III is not present or as assigned by the Sterile Processing Supervisor. Maintain flexibility and perform other duties related to the department mission as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum 24 months of experience as a Sterile Processing Technician.
- Basic knowledge of computer systems including Windows OS, keyboard, and mouse operation.
- Ability to operate Sterile Processing equipment.
- Demonstrated ability to competently perform multiple, complex tasks.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
REQUIRED
High School graduation or equivalent.
Ability to communicate effectively with nursing, technical, and medical staff through oral and written communication.
Ability to safely move heavy trays and equipment, lift up to 50 pounds, and stand for an eight-hour shift. Good communication and customer service skills.
REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
- Current certification as a Sterile Processing Technician through an accredited organization (IAHCSMM, CBSPD)
