Job description

Find your purpose in the St. Cloud Hospital's Sterile Processing Department! We prepare surgical instruments and devices. That means we clean, inspect, test, sterilize, store and deliver devices needed for surgery in a healthcare facility. Because of the work we do, surgeons can operate safely on patients in our communities. You will spend your shifts amongst a passionate team, while enjoying incredible views of the Mississippi River while you work!

PAY:

  • Base pay starts at $16.81 / hour.
  • As you move forward and earn certifications, you will earn more money as a Tech II, Tech III, etc..

HOURS:

  • 48-64 hours every two weeks. Primarily M-F, 2:30pm to 11pm occasional weekends to fill business needs. Rotating holidays.

CORE FUNCTIONS:

  • As assigned, performs decontamination, instrument assembly, inspection, disinfection, case cart management, and sterilization of medical devices and equipment at a basic level of complexity. Completes assignments in accordance with departmental protocols, regulatory guidelines, and industry standards as outlined in departmental procedures.
  • Handles sterile items in a manner which will not compromise their integrity and manages the work environment to ensure that sterile storage standards are maintained.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and compliance with all safety, security, and infection control procedures.
  • Reports variances, accidents, incidents and near misses in accordance with CentraCare policy.
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of policies, procedures, guidelines, and Instructions for Use (IFUs) for medical devices.
  • Requires basic communication skills to effectively work with team members and customers. Is responsible to ask appropriate questions and seek clarification as necessary.
  • Is able to work in an environment with frequent noises, alerts and disruptions.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Expect 8-hour shifts of standing/walking.
  • Be able to push/pull up to 75lbs, lift up to 25lbs routinely.
  • Frequent needs for reaching, bending, squatting, crouching.
  • Able to tolerate heat while wearing personal protective equipment.

EDUCATION:

  • High School Diploma or GED graduate or equivalent required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in healthcare preferred.
  • Requires little or no prior relevant training or work experience.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have the ability to understand detailed technical instruction for surgical instrumentation and equipment.

DUTIES:

  • Will be responsible for ensuring all surgical supplies, equipment, and instruments are properly decontaminated, disinfected, inspected, sterilized, inventoried and distributed in a quality and timely manner throughout the health system. Follows all hospital policies and Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Guidelines to ensure the highest level of patient safety. Is responsible for use of technologies such as copier/scanner, internet, handheld devices, electronic medical records, instrument tracking systems, inventory management systems, email and Microsoft office. Works with clearly defined methods and tasks that are described in detail. Works under close supervision with little autonomy.
