Specializing in Special Education Service Delivery
PART TIME POSITION (FY24)
State Support Team - Region 11 seeks a full-time team member who will train and coach district personnel towards effective approaches for special education service delivery, including inclusive instructional practices, multi-tiered systems of support, and compliance with state and federal regulations.
SST Consultant provides support to districts and schools to meet state and federal requirements, facilitate and support a comprehensive needs assessments (Ohio’s One Needs Assessment) to determine root cause, support research efforts through the use of Ohio’s evidence-based clearing house or other clearing house, facilitate districts’ development of one focused, coherent plan (Ohio’s One Plan) and provide implementation support and monitoring of implementation through the system structure of the Ohio Improvement Process.
CONTRACT LENGTH: 90-100 Days
PRIMARY POSITION DUTIES INCLUDE (but are not limited to):
- Providing professional development, coaching, and technical assistance on evidence-based instructional strategies, special education service delivery models, specially designed instruction for students with disabilities, educational equity, culturally relevant instruction, disproportionality in special education, and other topics related to closing student achievement gaps.
- Providing implementation strategies and follow-up support to educational teams related to multi-tiered systems of support, including Response to Intervention (RTI) and/or Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS),
- Providing professional development, coaching, and technical assistance on implementation of IDEA (ETR, IEP, Internal Monitoring, Indicator Review)
- Collecting and documenting evidence of implementation and impact of work with districts and buildings according to processes outlined by the Ohio Department of Education, and
- Assisting in documenting the work of the State Support Team and analyzing district/regional data to determine ongoing support needs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A master’s degree in the area for which an employee has primary responsibility (i.e., education, special education, early childhood education, education administration or appropriate related field or evidence of equivalency).
- Three to five years of successful classroom teaching, school improvement planning, special education administration or related experience.
- Expertise and/or significant leadership experience in several of the following areas:
- Specially designed instruction and provision of free appropriate public education in the least restrictive environment (special education,
- Supporting district/building/teacher teams in data-based decision-making and instructional planning for students with disabilities,
- Evidence-based processes and instructional practices, including development and systemic implementation of multi-tiered systems of academic and behavior supports,
- Supporting and monitoring IDEA compliance,
- Early childhood education, preschool special education, early education preschool to grade 3, or other early childhood settings such as Head Start or community-based childcare,
- Coaching and consultation skills,
- Implementation and monitoring of improvement effort, and
- Delivery of high-quality professional learning and technical assistance.
- Valid Ohio teaching license and/or administrative license.
- Experience as administrator at district or building level.
- Experience developing and providing professional development, coaching, and technical assistance for adult learners.
The following duties are representative of performance expectations; however, the list below is not ranked in order of importance:
- Assists districts, schools and families with questions and concerns.
- Upholds Board policies and follows administrative guidelines and procedures.
- Advises teaching and administrative staff in curriculum development, use of materials and equipment and implementation of state and federal programs and procedures,
- Uses data analysis skills to compare/contrast test scores, school district evaluations and student achievement data.
- Works with parents who need additional information or wish to speak about specific child needs.
- Provides professional learning and technical assistance to districts.
- Interprets and enforces provisions of state education laws, rules, and regulation of state education boards.
- Confers with members of educational committees and advisory groups to obtain knowledge of subject areas and to relate curriculum materials to specific subjects, individual student needs and occupational areas.
- Researches, evaluates, and prepares recommendations on curricula, instructional methods and materials for school districts.
- Develops instructional materials to be used by educators and instructors.
- Uses a computer to prepare and process information (e.g., input, compile, tabulate, post, store, retrieve, scan, modify, print, etc.)
- Assists with committee assignments and/or special projects as directed.
- Stays up to date on current research, programs, data trends, educational news, and laws/regulations.
- Keeps current with advances in office technology.
- Cross-trains with other staff as directed and offers assistance when needed.
- Participates in staff meetings and professional growth opportunities as directed.
- Provides technical assistance that helps families and district personnel in cooperatively addressing potential contentious issues prior to filing a formal complaint.
- Performs other specific job-related duties as directed by the Superintendent/designee.
- Performs other specific job-related duties as directed by the SST Director.
Job performance is evaluated according to the policy provisions adopted by the Governing Board of the Educational Service Center of Central Ohio.
SALARY: Salary schedule placement commensurate with experience and training.
