Reporting to the Logistics Manager and to the Race Director (when on site), the Staff Support Manager is responsible for
executing all errands for critical items needed on site. The SSM sets up and maintains the cafe and production offices in
proper working order, including stocking, with a sufficient supply of necessary materials, and communicates with operation
leaders to assist as needed. The primary goal of the SSM is to ensure the entire production staff is supplied with the proper
tools, and materials necessary to complete assembly, construction of obstacles, and the construction of the festival area. Staff
Support Managers are a support position within the Build and Logistics Operation that assists in managing volunteers, cooking
meals, and ultimately contributing to the success of a smooth event.


Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Cooking and/or sourcing meals for up to 100 people while maintaining a budget for all staff and volunteers onsite daily.
  • Cooking meals every day for lunch, race weekend breakfast, and race weekend dinner.
  • Cooking for different food allergies and dietary restrictions.
  • Coming up with a menu to feed staff and volunteers for the full race cycle.
  • Using a BBQ grill and other necessary tools to make meals to feed staff and volunteers for the full race cycle.
  • Working with Sysco every race to order bulk items that you will need for lunches, snack orders( staff, volunteers, Spartan +, and trail), bananas, and dinner.
  • Filling out the Meal Tracker daily, to help stay on budget.
  • Manage all radio communication equipment for all staff for the entire race cycle. This includes entering information in the radio log, noting any damage and sending items out for repair as necessary, building race weekend zone buckets, etc.
  • Manage all office equipment.
  • Work with the procurement department to order supplies for the following race according to the deadlines put in place. Responsible for taking accurate inventories on time for every event.
  • Entering orders necessary for events, within the proper documents.
  • Point of contact for volunteers during the build cycle.
  • Manage errands for essential materials for on-site staff involving the use of up to 26-foot U-Haul trucks, flatbeds, and trucks.
  • Assist volunteer coordinator with the deployment of race day volunteers.
  • Setting up and taking down cafe and office trailer. Ensuring items are loaded into the appropriate trailers for shipping to the next event.
  • Assist on-site leadership with sourcing materials from local vendors as needed.
  • Work with the Basecamp Manager and Delivery Inventory Manager as one of the base camp team. To make sure that the base camp area is clean and organized at all times.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Must be able to cook.
  • Ability to cook for large groups of people: 50-100.
  • Ability to cook for large groups of people with different food allergies and dietary restrictions.
  • Ability to cook meals on the spot.
  • Ability to take proper inventories.
  • Self Motivated.
  • Production experience and/or event experience preferred. 
  • Compliance and completion of all safety training.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age with a valid driver’s license without restrictions and a clean driving record.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of volunteers and employees (read and speak conversational English).
  • Willingness and ability to travel.
  • Willingness and ability to work 11+ days at a time.
  • Willingness to work outside in all adverse weather conditions for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to work from home prior to and after each event.
  • Demonstrate a full range of movement including but not limited to lifting, standing, bending, reaching, twisting, an crawling.
  • Occasionally lifts, pushes, pulls, and moves equipment and material weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, and use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls.
  • Experience and confidence with the operation of all motorized equipment are preferred.
  • Have a proven attention to detail, a keen sense for organization, and cleanliness, and be able to have exceptional time management skills.
  • Must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints.
  • Thrive in a fast-paced high stimulus environment and be able to multitask.
  • Be an excellent creative problem solver.
  • Have a desire to bring fast, viable solutions to the entire production staff that they support.
  •  Be proficient with the Google Docs computing software packages (Google Drive, Sheets, etc).
