Our Engineering team at the Livewire Labs facility located in Mountain View, CA has an opening for a Staff Power Electronics Design Engineer. This open position requires a relentless drive to success while working in an efficient, dynamic, and agile systems focused engineering environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create hardware architecture for LiveWire’s EV Power Electronic components, including Inverter, On-Board Charger (OBC) and DCDC Converter
  • Define hardware and software level requirements for various Power Electronics sub­systems / circuits
  • Create schematic, specify components, and integrate various components for various Power Electronic circuits, taking into account EMI/EMC design best practices
  • Work with PCB Engineer to create layout for the Power Electronic circuits
  • Work with Manufacturing Engineer to create and define assembly process for various Power Electronic components
  • Work with Supply Chain & Quality Engineers to ensure continuous supply & high quality Power Electronic components & assembly
  • Create and execute test plans for Power Electronic circuits bring up
  • Drive overall hardware conformance to the well-adopted international standards including ISO 26262 (Functional Safety) and other global regulatory requirements
  • Create, maintain, and track action items from hardware DFMEA
  • Create, maintain, and track Power Electronics design validation test specifications
  • Perform circuit simulations & worst-case analysis on various Power Electronic circuits
  • Execute root cause analysis for test failure reports and field returns

Education Required

  • This position requires a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering with focus on Power Electronics / Power Conversion Systems.

Experience Required

Good knowledge of Power Electronics products for EV powertrain such as Inverters, On-Board Chargers (OBC) and DCDC Converters. Good knowledge on Power Electronic circuits protection mechanism and diagnostic reporting. At least 5 years of hands-on experience in Power Electronics hardware development: design, debug, validation, and manufacturing / production. Experience in the following is highly preferred:

  • Experience in high power (500 W – 100 kW+) conversion circuit design and analysis (AC-to-DC, DC-to-AC, and DC/DC converters)
  • Experience in designing circuits with mixed signals (digital and analog, various voltage levels)
  • Working knowledge of power transistor gate drive circuits, vehicle communication circuits, microcontroller circuits, etc.
  • Working knowledge of Power Electronic sensors (high voltage sensors, current sensors, temperature sensors, etc.), protection circuits, and vehicle interface for diagnostic reporting
  • General understanding of EMI/EMC design best practices
  • Power electronics high voltage laboratory experiments
  • Power electronics full scale production & manufacturing process
  • Working knowledge of data acquisition tools – LabView / Veristand, CANalyzer, Neo VI, etc.
  • System requirements development and decomposition for hardware and software
  • Requirements & work management tool (Helix, IBM DOORS, Polarion, JIRA, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of automotive Power Electronics system based design process (A-SPICE)

Pay Range: $132,240 - $204,960

The pay range shown represents the national average pay range for this role. Your pay may be more or less than the stated range and is dependent on your geographic location and level of experience.
