Under the general direction of the Controller, the Staff Accountant is responsible for reconciling financial transactions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, prepaid expenses, and deferred revenue to ensure accuracy of reporting, resolving discrepancies (as needed), and ensuring GAAP compliance. The Staff Accountant will prepare and maintain financial records to track AVMA assets, liabilities, profit and loss, and other related financial activities, including the management of the accounting processes for AVMA’s Political Action Committee (PAC) accounts to ensure accurate Federal Election Commission (FEC) reporting.

- Bachelor’s degree in accounting is required, CPA is a plus.
- Minimum of 3-years account reconciliation or related experience is required, association experience is a plus.
- Prior experience working with a PAC, is a plus.
- Strong accounting skills.
- Excellent time management skills, including the ability to multi-task and prioritize responsibilities.
- Experience with accounting software, Great Plains is a plus.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate well with all levels of the organization (staff and members)
- Highly organized with good attention to detail.
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a team.
- Strong computer skills with knowledge of commonly used computer applications, such as Microsoft Office
- Ability to work outside of normal business hours, as needed.
