Nature of Work
This is professional level accounting/analytical work in the City's Finance Department. Employees in this class are responsible for performing accounting and finance functions in assigned areas that include, but are not limited to general ledger, financial analysis and reporting, bank reconciliations, journal entry, general accounting, work paper preparation, as well as undertaking specific projects assigned.
General supervision may be received from, and work reviewed by a Division Head including the Accounting Manager or designee. An employee in this classification is expected to learn the full scope of duties outlined below and exercise considerable judgment and discretion in solving the more challenging complexities arising out of financial transactions and analysis using generally accepted accounting principles and standards.
Illustrative Examples of Essential Duties
- Prepare, review, and enter journal entries
- Assist with compilation of department year-end reports
- Analyzing and reconciling accounts, financial records, and preparing detailed accounting reports and work papers
- Assist with compiling and editing statements, notes, and schedules for financial statements
- Preparing and reconciling a variety of bank reconciliations
- Preparing and inputting City capital assets entries
- Analyzing capital expenditures for additions to capital assets
- Recording periodic capital assets depreciation and updating the computerized capital assets system
- Assist with preparation of detailed schedules summarizing capital assets by department
- Assist with GL maintenance as assigned
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with elected officials, coworkers, the press the general public and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability, political affiliation, gender identity or sexual orientation.
- Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of all City ethics and conflicts of interest policies. Strong understanding of ethical behavior is required.
- Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.
- Ability to report to work as directed during an emergency as an essential employee of the City of Miami Beach
- Ability to maintain current all required safety and other mandatory trainings.

Minimum Requirements
- REQUIRED:
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field
- DESIRED:
- Two (2) or more years full-time accounting and/or financial experience
- Government experience
Physical Requirements:
- Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact
- Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to, word processor, calculator, copier, and fax machine
- No significant standing, walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, or kneeling
- Some crawling, reaching, handling, sitting, standing, pushing, and pulling
