Staff Accountant

The organization was founded in 2019 by Chelsea Jewish Lifecare (Chelsea and Peabody) and JGS Lifecare (Longmeadow). Other organizations part of the Legacy Lifecare family include Deutsches Altenheim (West Roxbury), Sisters of Charity - Halifax's Elizabeth Seton Residence and Marillac Residence (Wellesley), Armenian Nursing & Rehabilitation Center (Jamaica Plain), Stone Rehabilitation & Senior Living (Newton), and St. Joseph Living Center (Windham, CT). Together, these organizations own and operate nine skilled nursing facilities, four assisted living residences and two independent living residences across campuses in Massachusetts and Connecticut. Additional services include home health care, hospice and palliative care, and adult day health care.
Summary of Position: The accountant assists in maintaining monthly financial statements for multiple business units managed by Legacy Lifecare in a timely and accurate manner. The accountant should continually strive, through the implementation of improved accounting and financial systems, to increase the efficiency of the finance department. The accountant also assists in preparing information for the annual audits of managed entities in a manner that is both cost-effective and efficient.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, finance or other related field
- Minimum of 3 years' experience in non-profit or comparable organization
- Health Care or Senior Care finance experience preferred
- Ability to manage multiple projects at the same time
- Multi-entity experience preferred
- Analytical self-starter who produces quality work in a timely fashion
- Team player with ability to work independently
- Detail-oriented
- Excellent organizational skills
Primary Functions and Essential Responsibilities:
- Prepare balance sheet and income statement account reconciliations
- Complete month-end and year-end closing for multiple business units
- Ensure accuracy of financial statements in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and organization's policies and procedures
- Prepare and analyze profit and loss statements
- Advise management of reasons for any unusual trends, budget variances, difficulties obtaining information or other pending issues
- Prepare and distribute monthly financial statements
- Interact with various levels of management
- Support annual audit fieldwork and tax return preparation
- Perform other accounting-related duties as directed by supervisor
- Maintain organization confidence and protect operations by keeping information confidential
