Charter Impact works to empower charter schools and educational non-profits with the most accurate and efficient financial management and operational support. The Staff Accountant is responsible for managing daily accounting tasks for multiple complex clients, primarily nonprofits in the charter school industry, and works alongside a fast-paced team of accounting professionals. Our work is fast-paced and client-centric (Charter Impact Staff Accountants typically close six clients each month), so adaptability is key. This position offers extensive workplace flexibility – candidates have no mandatory in-office time required and are able to work remote living within the Pacific Standard Time Zone or Mountain Standard Time Zone.
Responsibilities
- Review weekly bank reconciliations and cash position reports
- Perform month-end close procedures and prepare financial statements as needed
- Enter and post journal entries, record appropriate monthly accruals, reconcile inter-company accounts, and perform analysis and provide reasoning for variances
- Complete all grant compliance reports and budget-to-actual variance reports for assigned clients
- Record all inter-company transactions and transfers
- Communicate with client management regarding cash flow issues and potential courses of action
- Perform new client onboarding and training, and resolve inquiries from clients, governmental agencies and auditors
- Assist in special projects and year-end audit schedule preparation
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field. Master’s degree is a plus
- A CPA license or CPA-eligibility is a plus
- At least 2 years of experience preparing financial statements (full close)
- Purposes, methods, and practices of financial and accounting record keeping
- Basic accrual accounting principles and procedures
- Strong technical computer skills – proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and comfort learning software systems
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, to maintain strong relationships with both clients and internal staff
