Objective / Accountability
The Staff Accountant records and analyzes financial information, applies accounting principles, and evaluates and analyzes information. This person ensures timely and accurate completion of financial accounting and reporting. The Staff Accountant supports the Administration Department and managers of Midwest Groundcovers.
Functions / Corresponding Task
Monitor bank accounts daily and reconcile monthly. Communicate with bank representatives to resolve issues. Administer company credit card programs. Deliver cash deposits to bank weekly.
Maintain the general ledger in the Ross ERP System.
Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes. Prepare and post journal entries.
Prepare and deliver monthly financial reports to management and board of directors.
Provide information and assistance to management, including ad-hoc reports, data compilation and analysis, and ongoing data tracking to measure business performance against goals.
Prepare and file sales and use tax returns and ensure compliance with state tax regulations.
Compile information for year-end and other audits.
Assist with coordination of the annual budget process.
Maintain the capital budget and expenditure worksheet.
Manage the fixed asset accounts and depreciation schedules.
Assist the Controller with special projects and other duties as needed.
Provide support and back-up for accounts payable, accounts receivable, and invoicing.
Support the Administration Department as needed.
Manage the phone system's voicemail and auto-attendant services.
Provide reception coverage as needed.
Manage the twice-yearly employee clothing sales.
Actively participate in the CultureWise program.
Required Skills
Ability to communicate effectively, accurately, and concisely.
Strong computer skills with high competency in Microsoft Excel (creating charts and using advanced formulas).
Experience with accounting/ERP software.
Excellent analytical skills to manage large amounts of data.
Proven knowledge of accounting principles, practices, standards, laws and regulations.
Ability to prioritize work.
High attention to detail and accuracy.
Education / Experience Prerequisites
Associate degree in accounting; bachelor's degree preferred.
4 years of accounting experience.
