Job Summary
As a Staff Accountant at Peregrade, you'll be responsible for the day-to-day transactions as well as the month end closing. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in supporting the finance and accounting functions of our organization, working closely with our Controller and CFO. The Staff Accountant will be responsible for various financial tasks, including but not limited to, reconciling accounts, preparing financial reports, analyzing financial data, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.
This position will work onsite at our office in downtown Chicago.
Responsibilities
AP/AR Maintenance: Ensure timely payment of vendor invoices, perform monthly reconciliation of vendor statements to the accounting records. Maintain vendor records and assist with issuing 1099s at year-end. Assist in preparing bank deposits and ensuring customer payments are recorded accurately within CCC and Quickbooks.
Month-End Closing: Assist in the month-end and year-end closing processes. Prepare and post journal entries as necessary.
Financial Reporting: Generate financial statements and reports regularly. Provide analysis of financial data and trends to support decision-making and recognize discrepancies.
Account Reconciliation: Reconcile bank statements, general ledger accounts, and other financial accounts. Investigate and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
Compliance: Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards, regulations, and company policies. Assist with external audits and provide necessary documentation.
Budgeting and Forecasting: Collaborate with across departments to gather information for budgeting and forecasting processes. Contribute to the development and monitoring of budgetary goals.
Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement efficient financial procedures. Streamline financial reporting systems for increased accuracy and effectiveness.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business, or other related degree
- 2+ years of Accounting experience
- Working knowledge of QuickBooks & spreadsheet software
- Proven ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
- High attention to detail
- Willing to travel locally as needed
- Autobody shop or CCC experience is a bonus, but not required
- Strong understanding of federal, state, and local tax regulations
- Ability to pass a criminal background check
