Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Ownership of complex Captive financial statements
- Daily or weekly (as appropriate) reconciliation and posting of customer payments to the General Ledger (Undeposited Cash)
- Post vendor invoices to Captive general ledger
- Monitor Captive accounts payable on a weekly basis to ensure timely payment to vendors
- Post monthly servicing invoices to Captive general ledger
- Monthly closing and financial statement preparation for assigned Captive clients:
- Reconcile all cash accounts
- Prepare monthly roll forward for all Balance Sheet accounts, including Loss Reserve
- Prepare and document all month-end closing and adjusting journal entries
- Post all workpapers, invoices and other documentation to the General Ledger
- Maintain integrity and organization of Captive General Ledger
- Address legacy posting issues required to ensure continued conformity with GAAP
- Present, explain and defend monthly financial statements to Assistant Controller(s) and CFO
- Prepare data visualization reports to illustrate portfolio, revenue, and expense trends
- Prepare monthly memo for Captive client to explain financial statements and highlight issues and opportunities
- Interface with IHF Account Management to explain financial statements in preparation for presentation to Captive client
- In conjunction with the annual financial statement audit (ORF only, for now):
- Prepare schedules and workpapers required by auditors and address questions and inquiries related to accounting activity and accounting processes, procedures and internal controls
- Support ad hoc projects and initiatives, as needed
Essential Competencies (Staff Accountant II)
- Strong technical knowledge and conceptual understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and their application, especially as such knowledge and understanding relates to Accounting issues and reporting requirements of a financial services business and the sale and transfer of financial assets
- Significant experience with monthly closing and financial statement preparation, account reconciliations, general ledger structure, and reporting capability
- Meaning understanding of internal controls and their application
- Meaningful understanding of Accounting policies and procedures and their preparation and application
- Ability to work cross functionally and to understand the actual and potential impact of business issues on the financial statements
- Commitment to continuing career development and professional education
Preferred Education and Experience
- Degree in Accounting
- Meaningful conceptual knowledge and understanding of financial statements, financial statement preparation and management of the General Ledger
- 3 - 4 years of experience in Public Accounting or Industry
- Previous experience in a staff accounting role
- Ability and confidence to work independently
