Job description

The Role:

At the heart of Moderna's R&D and Portfolio and Program Management (PPM) function this role is instrumental in guiding our clinical development portfolio from early clinical-stage innovation to regulatory approval. We are actively seeking a Senior Director of Portfolio Reporting & Analytics to champion the establishment and advancement of a sophisticated study, program and portfolio-level reporting, analytics and insights infrastructure. This senior role is critical, as it involves strategic collaboration with the PPM leadership, Clinical Operations, Digital (IT), R&D Finance, and R&D Strategy, among other R&D functions and beyond. The Senior Director will be at the forefront of defining and executing a vision for study, program and portfolio-level reporting and analytics, elevating our capability to make data-driven decisions throughout the lifecycle of our development programs.

Here's What Youll Do:

  • Develop and implement a compelling strategic vision and roadmap for study, program and portfolio-level reporting, offering reports related to timelines, costs and risks to key stakeholders, e.g., study and program teams, development and functional leadership teams, governance bodies, senior management, and enabling them to manage and steer their respective studies, programs and/or portfolio.

  • The above includes the following:

    • understanding and assessing the reporting needs of the respective stakeholders as well as the technical requirements to meet those needs.

    • developing a foundational framework and establishing comprehensive performance (KPIs) and risk metrics to monitor the portfolio's delivery on time, budget, and quality standards.

    • integrating seamlessly key operational internal and external (e.g., CRO) study, program and portfolio-level datasets into a central reporting platform that enables transparent reporting and one source of truth across the organization.

  • Formulate and implement a strategic vision and roadmap for study, program and portfolio-level analytics, driving the organization towards insightful analyses that inform decision-making at all levels.

  • Developing advanced clinical analytics & portfolio simulation capabilities to predict and optimize development timelines/slippage, costs and risks proactively and to evaluate operational implications thereof, e.g., by leveraging AI technology to refine our models.

  • Establish a strategic partnership with the Digital (IT) team to drive the creation of a fully integrated data platform, centralizing and aligning data sets across Moderna and CRO partners and setting a vision for data infrastructure that underpins robust reporting and analytics.

  • Collaborate closely with the Clinical Operations, Program Management, R&D Finance to ensure fiscal discipline across study, program and portfolio levels and the adherence to corporate financial targets.

  • Serve as an extended member of the PPM LT, shaping organizational strategy and driving enterprise-wide initiatives that enhance Moderna's market position and operational excellence.

  • Provide executive leadership to a high-performing team tasked with the development and refinement of the Portfolio Reporting & Analytics function.

  • Cultivate influential relationships with executive and functional leaders to align Modernas portfolio strategy with organizational objectives, proactively identifying and mitigating risks, and addressing strategic challenges.

Heres What Youll Bring to the Table:

  • Masters degree in a scientific discipline with over 7 years of experience in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry, with a substantial portion in a leadership capacity.

  • Renowned expertise in reporting, modeling, forecasting, and data analytics, with a history of leveraging insights to drive corporate value and strategic initiatives.

  • Experience in pioneering study, program and portfolio analytics capabilities and establishing industry-leading portfolio-level processes.

  • Exceptional analytical acumen, coupled with a comprehensive understanding of business dynamics in R&D as well as study and program management processes.

  • A proven track record of managing complex, dynamic organizations collaboratively to achieve breakthroughs in medicine.

  • Recognized ability to envision strategic directions and execute on them, catalyzing process enhancements and organizational transformation.

  • Navigational excellence in dynamic environments, fostering collaboration, and managing high-stakes conflicts within a highly technical landscape.

  • Extensive experience engaging with C-suite and executive leadership to influence organizational direction.

  • Superior communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills to drive executive-level discourse and decision-making.
