Responsibilities for construction accountant
· Setting up a paperless office system including organized storage of all correspondence, contracts, bills, POs, liens, and other documents related to construction projects and accounting
· Process all accounts payable and accounts receivable
· Recognize revenue appropriately throughout the course of the project
- Prepare, distribute, and collect supplier lien waivers on a monthly basis for each job.
- Maintain proactive communication with suppliers and customers to ensure forecasted AP and AR targets are being met.
· Preparation of monthly financial statements (balance sheets, income statements and month-end close) GL account review and reconciliation including G&A analysis
· Job cost analysis and reporting
· Prepare audit work papers and schedules
· Analysis of project expenditures and project accounting transactions
· Prepare monthly loan draw request for multiple construction projects and monitor job costs projects
· Review and process subcontract and consultant payment requests
· Prepare bank reconciliations and accrual entries
· Monitor subcontractor contracts and commitments
· Performing day-to-day accounting functions such as month end close, variance analysis, financial reporting, AP, AR, and billing
· Maintenance of General Ledger
· Monitor job progress and any potential overruns against purchase orders or budgets
Qualifications for construction accountant
· Three plus years of experience providing attest services in a professional services firm
· Construction & Real Estate experience with demonstrated technical expertise in this industry highly preferred
· Analyze situations and data to resolve existing or potential problems
· Plan and monitor the activities of areas
· Proficient in PC based applications such as Excel
· Good management and organizational skills including the ability to work on several projects simultaneously, meet critical deadlines, and determine the priority of assignments based on deadlines that must be met
