The Sr. Systems Administrator provides subject matter expertise and support of the technology and hardware for Harbor Freight’s enterprise systems. Functions of this role include design, specification, installation, and testing of computer systems within the established standards and guidelines. Activities require interaction with the application software and operating systems to diagnose and resolve issues that arise.

- Provide technical and application expertise to the design, implementation and maintenance of the software applications and environments
- Define metrics and standards that can be used as benchmarks for system performance
- Ensure optimal systems / applications performance by working with the database administrator which provides proper security, integrity, and recovery of data
- Define and implement standards, policies, and procedures to achieve agreed upon service levels by tuning, maintaining, and supporting a breadth of application infrastructure including performance, back-up, recovery and archive functions
- Plan/modify /maintain updates and/or patches of applications using releases and utilities from the manufacturers. Apply and test the technical aspect product specific patches and fixes as they are released
- Monitor, analyze and respond to applications related trouble reports from users, systems alarms, or internal systems user reports
- Lead technical research resources for incident resolution coordinating with vendors when necessary
- Enforce change management and compliance processes for both production support and project requirements
- Design, build and configure new systems for deployment
- Manage application software configuration
- Develop and maintain troubleshooting documentation for frequent incident occurrences
- Produce and maintain documentation for application deployment, configuration, and related processes
- Manage the relationship with software vendors regarding resolution of application bugs and systems issues
- Create technical/operational test plans for new software patches and releases
- Identify and develop in-house systems functions and/or reports where vendor-provided software falls short of business needs
- Participate in established ITIL processes to drive out inefficiencies, operationalize recurring incidents, and continuously work to improve team’s customer satisfaction
- Install, configure and plan lifecycle replacement, coordinate outages and perform performance tuning for applications and hardware
- Provide 24/7 emergency support for systems and applications as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements
Job Qualifications – Education and Experience
- 5-7 years of experience in system or application administration
- Can confidently exercise effective, independent professional judgment in the execution of the essential job duties, without regular on-site supervision
- Strong knowledge of system and software quality assurance best practices and methodologies
- Deep understanding of Software Development Lifecycle methodologies as adopted by the organization
- Highly flexible and adaptable in regards to learning and understanding new technologies
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Ability to conduct research into software-related issues and products
- Highly self-motivated and directed
- Keen attention to detail
- Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
- Proficient in Windows and Linux servers and administration
- Experience with SQL and Oracle databases
- BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology or a related field preferred
- 5 years of experience supporting software applications and software development
- General office environment, ability to sit for long periods of time
- Ability to move about an office
- Able to lift and transport moderately heavy objects, such as computers and peripherals up to 50 lbs.
