Position Summary:Sr. Security Operations Specialist is responsible for delivery of security services for the San Diego Illumina Headquarters and Global Security Operations Center programs. The Sr. Security Operations Specialist will play a key support role in the maturation of the security process including; routine and confidential investigations, contract guard operations, and establishment of post orders, work instructions, and standards.
Through collaboration and partnership, the incumbent supports the Security Operations used in protecting people and assets through prevention, identification, assessment, management, and reduction of threats of violence and/or disruption of operations involving systems owned, operated or controlled by the security staff.
The Sr. Security Operations Specialist will be responsible for the Global Security Operations Center (GSOC) staffed by contract security operators which is responsible for providing primary and secondary service support at all Illumina campuses globally. The Sr. Security Operations Specialist will provide support to the GSOC in the areas of Security and Fire Alarm System Monitoring, Local EMS, Access Control, CCTV Monitoring, Global Threat Management, Travel Security and Mass/Local Emergency Communications. The Sr. Security Operations Specialist will manage the GSOC program & contract staff that fulfill all general intake responsibilities and must demonstrate flexibility, openness to change and ideas, and the highest levels of initiative, leadership and professionalism.
The Sr. Security Operations Specialist maintains an active role implementing routine response & emergency security plans for campus operations. In addition, the Sr. Security Operations Specialist is responsible for assisting in the formulation and implementation of policies, procedures, operational standards, and other related activities that utilize campus wide operations of all physical security and safety systems. This Sr. Security Operations Specialist serves on various campus wide planning teams as a representative of Global Security Leadership and provides support for all aspects of program development and policy compliance. The Sr. Security Operations Specialist will collaborate in the coordination of installation and maintenance services with the Physical Security Systems Team. The Sr. Security Operations Specialist will conduct periodic assessments, conduct investigations and maintain a close working relationship with the facilities break fix program and help identify gaps in security systems and work with Region or Global Security Management to recommend budget priorities and projects.
Work in this security function is concerned primarily with the campus operations & physical protection of sensitive or confidential information, personnel, facilities, installations, or other sensitive materials, resources, or processes against criminal, terrorist, or hostile intelligence activities. Sr. Security Operations Specialists help develop security processes that confirm with the Global Security Policies, to ensure that sensitive information, equipment, and other material is not compromised, sabotaged, stolen, misused, or subjected to terrorist, malicious mischief, or other acts of willful interference.

Responsibilities:

  • Implement security protective strategies in the Illumina San Diego footprint.
  • Implement the access control strategy and program for all facilities and offices in the San Diego footprint.
  • Manage all outsourced guard services within the iSOC, to include developing metrics designed to measure the effectiveness and efficiency of the services provided.
  • Implement the global physical security audit program at the San Diego campuses to measure compliance to global physical security standards, policies and procedures.
  • Implement, and maintain Company security processes and asset protection standards across all areas of responsibility to reduce risks, respond to incidents and limit exposure to liability.
  • Provide expertise, direction and support on all matters relating to routine and emergency Security Operations.
  • Implement Global Physical Security policies, procedures, guidelines, standards, and best practices, evaluating San Diego facilities effectiveness and adherence to these measures.
  • Interface with other business areas and sectors to accomplish cooperative goals, representing Global Security in multidisciplinary initiatives.
  • Ensure alignment with Security Operations, visitor management & reception operations.
  • Implement & monitor training programs for contract security that include compliance with company required trainings, licensed contract guard services and other emergency response to include basic & advanced first aid.
  • Conduct reoccurring analysis of security exposures, evaluate program effectiveness, and develop benchmarking standards and metrics to measure the effectiveness of the San Diego GSOC function.
  • Foster effective communication and coordination with the Illumina Global Security team

Requirements:
  • 5+ years' working in the security services industry, including 2+ years in a security management capacity;
  • 2 year degree in Security/Emergency Management/Criminal Justice or related field from an accredited college or university required; equivalent years of experience may be considered in lieu of degrees
  • Computer literate with proficiency in Word and Excel
  • Knowledge of industry-based security software systems
  • Exceptionally dependable/reliable/punctual
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Highly detail oriented with a strong sense of urgency
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work independently with little direct supervision
  • Ability to work flexible and extended hours as needed (must be able to continue work until relieved)
  • Ability to travel up to 10-15% of time

Preferred Skills:
  • 4 year degree in Security/Emergency Management/Criminal Justice or related field from an accredited college or university
  • Knowledge of Physical Security Systems
  • Security Operations Center/Security experience
  • Contract Security Management experience

The estimated base salary range for the Sr. Security Operations Specialist (GSOC) role based in the United States of America is: $86,500 - $129,700. Should the level or location of the role change during the hiring process, the applicable base pay range may be updated accordingly. Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including, but not limited to, an individual's qualifications, location where the role is to be performed, internal equity, and alignment with market data. Additionally, all employees are eligible for one of our variable cash programs (bonus or commission) and eligible roles may receive equity as part of the compensation package.
