Job Description Summary:
The Biostatistics Center of the Milken Institute School of Public Health is an off-campus research facility of The George Washington University located in Rockville, Maryland. The Biostatistics Center serves as the coordinating center and/or statistical center for multi-center clinical trials and epidemiological studies funded by federal agencies including the National Institutes of Health (NIH). We are seeking a part-time Sr. SAS Programmer to perform statistical programming in SAS databases for use by statisticians. This includes creating/developing, testing, documenting and implementing programming systems to process data for a range of research studies within the Antibacterial Resistance Leadership Group (ARLG), an NIH-funded research project at the Biostatistics Center.
Duties most typically performed by this position include utilizing relevant professional experience and judgment for the following:
-Performs statistical programming for analysis for study statisticians.
-Participates in validation activities and contributes to the development and implementation of Good Programming Practices and procedures.
-Oversees ad hoc programming requirements and collaborates with statisticians in tasks requiring programming.
-Designs, builds, and enhances SAS systems.
-Generates graphics using SAS and R, and documents programs.
-Creates and maintains SAS macros, and develops, expands, and streamlines SAS programs.
-Maintains detailed knowledge of research study protocols, manuals of procedures, data forms, and other study documents.
-Communicates with the Biostatistics Center Systems Support staff and Administrative staff relating to systems and administrative details.
-Participates in general staff meetings and study-specific meetings as required.
-Performs other work-related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Minimum Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 2 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master's degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications:
Preferred Qualifications:
• Excellent SAS statistical programming skills including macros programs development, and awareness of current features in SAS especially in Base SAS, SAS/Stat and SAS/Graph
• Desire to remain informed of new developments in programming, that are relevant to the industry and the development of tools in SAS
• Ability to work on multiple projects at the same time
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Experience with clinical trials and/or large datasets a plus
• Knowledge of Windows Batch scripting a plus
Typical Hiring Range
Commensurate with experience.
