  • Pay Range: $18.00 to $20.00

WHAT YOU’LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR IN THIS ROLE

The Recycling Center Senior Assistant will assist Lead in all areas of responsibility that have to do with solid waste collection, disposal, sorting, recycling, and minimization.

JOB DUTIES

  • Provide leadership support for Recycle Center team when the Lead is away.
  • Communicate with customers, vendors, supervisor, and manager as needed to support Recycle Center operations when the Lead is away.
  • Maintain the transfer station/Recycling Center to ensure proper segregation of materials
  • Collect trash & recyclable materials throughout plant and facilitate transportation of material to Recycling Center for processing
  • Understand and implement solid waste rules, chemical container handling safe practices, and recycling procedures
  • Conduct visual inspection of loads to prevent improper disposal or improper recycling
  • Sort food waste, trash & recyclable materials including plastics, paper, cardboard, metals, wood, green waste, etc. to reduce costs, maximize recycling revenue, and comply with landfill diversion requirements.
  • Monitor access to the recycling area
  • Operate recycling equipment including trash compactors, shredding machine, baling equipment, and small hand tools and power equipment
  • Operate heavy equipment including forklifts, front-end loader, and related equipment
  • Load, unload, stack, and manage variety of recycled materials
  • Assist with coordinating off-site removal of processed recyclables
  • Maintain overall cleanliness, quality compliance, and organization of the Recycling Center
  • Communicate with operations, support, and management staff. Respond to and resolve solid waste and recycling issues
  • Work varied shifts depending on assignment
  • Promote waste reduction, recycling, and diversion. Communicate ideas for improving processes
  • Assist with departmental waste audits and provide recommendations
  • Comply with safe work practices and OSHA standards
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned


WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED; plus one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Possess a valid California Driver License

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to operate a forklift, and recycling equipment
  • Knowledge of safe operation and maintenance techniques for trash compactor, shredder, horizontal baler, and other equipment used in Recycling Center.
  • Capable of reading and understanding standard operating procedures and parts manuals
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member
  • Work with minimum supervision
  • Great attention to detail of task being performed
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Possess excellent interpersonal skills with ability to maintain effective relationships with employees/departments
  • Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Must have a safety driven focus while working

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 1 year experience in trash collection, recycling, or related field
  • Bilingual (Spanish /English) desirable

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Must be capable of lifting 50 lbs.
  • Prolonged standing and walking
  • Ability to climb a ladder
  • Prolonged environmental exposure to outdoor conditions


Hours & Workdays:

2nd Shift (9:30AM – 6:00PM); Monday through Friday; when business requires overtime and weekends maybe be mandatory.
