The Sr. Product Development Engineer will support Camp Chef growth by designing and developing outdoor cooking products. The ideal candidate will be someone that loves to the outdoors and has the ability to filter their inspirations and passions through the Camp Chef design language to engineer and produce innovate products that continue to amaze our customers and push the industry technological boundaries. You will be responsible for designing and developing individual products and complete product lines of moderate to extreme levels of difficulty, complexity, or breadth of scope or for which few precedents exist through the use of shape, accent details, ergonomics and other design techniques in collaboration with other cross-functional team members. This position mentors new and more junior engineering employees.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

+ Responsible for the mechanical design of new products working in conjunction with the development team to combine function and aesthetics into market leading products

+ Strong teamwork with Marketing to conceptualize new product ideas based on competitive and market needs

+ Create, prepare, and evaluate functional prototypes to verify design intent through virtual or physical methods

+ Heavy CAD workload throughout development cycle to flesh out ideas and to execute the final design from conception to Manufacturing. Create and maintain design documentation such as engineering drawings, product and material specifications, bill of materials, etc. to assure quality in product designs

+ Conduct cost analysis on new product designs

+ Take ownership of project schedule, prototyping

+ Evaluate designs relative to applicable safety standards

+ Ability to conceptualize new mechanical design in sketch, CAD and model making.

+ Work with Developers and Operations group to improve cost and ease of manufacturing

+ Communicate internally and with international factories and vendors; both verbally and in writing critical and pertinent information that is needed in the development process.

+ Acknowledge that your work affects the quality level of the final product.

+ Consistently meet or beat assigned deliverables and project schedule dates.

+ Direct the efforts of inside and outside resources to create drawings, models, and prototypes.

+ Keep informed of the latest developments in the field by reading trade journals, individual contacts and attendance at appropriate meetings and/or trade shows.

+ Direct the efforts of Engineering Technicians to assist within the Product Development process

+ Visit vendor's manufacturing facilities to sample and commercialize intended product design. Study vendor's development techniques, production processes and technological capabilities to enhance professional knowledge, further vendor relationship and assist in the innovation of product design/development.

+ Holds "specialist" role for the R&D group in at least one domain

+ Take on minor and major level projects outside of day-to-day product design

+ Provide mentorship to Junior Engineers and Manage Interns

+ Ensures compliance with state and federal regulations.

+ Work with suppliers throughout design, quoting, tooling, and production processes

Requirements/Qualifications

+ CADD experience required, proficient in PTC Creo and PTC Windchill or similar platform.

+ Computer experience/knowledge of Microsoft applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).

+ Experience with manufacturing techniques including sheet metal fabrication, welding, machining, sand casting, die casting, and injection molding.

+ Experienced and competent with basic model shop tools and procedures.

+ Experience in managing engineering programs preferred.

+ Must communicate effectively, without error, in verbal and written formats.

+ Reading comprehension and extensive math skills are a requirement.

+ Flexibility to effectively deal with a variety of people and situations and to handle interruptions and multiple tasks simultaneously.

+ Quick thinking and problem solving to readily assimilate information.

+ Ability to maintain tact and highly professional manners. Initiative to effectively complete tasks with little supervision.

+ The ability to identify and appropriately handle confidential information.

Camp Chef is a subsidiary of Vista Outdoor.

Pay Range:

$92,800.00 - $145,200.00

The actual annual salary offered to a candidate will be based on variables including experience, geographic location, education, and skills/achievements, and will be mutually agreed upon at the time of offer.
