The Mission Systems Integrated Solutions (IS) team at Collins Aerospace is looking for an experienced TEMPEST - EMC/EMIElectrical Engineer with a current CTP-II certification to join our staff in Richardson, TX. In this role you will be responsible for supporting programs within the Richardson facility’s IS portfolio.  Specifically, you will be responsible for the following tasks: providing design support related activities to the TEMPEST and EMC disciplines for products and sub-systems of moderate to high complexity as well as providing program support during the bid process, requirements allocation, and the system design and development stages.

This is an Onsite position located in Richardson, TX. Some travel to conduct TEMPEST or EMC testing will be necessary. This position may be eligible for relocation.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Serve assigned projects as a focal point for TEMPEST activities including:
  • Contribute to engineering program pursuits and bid estimates
  • Supports the acquisition process in developing EMI compliant design to achieve compliance to new EMI tests related to MIL-STD-461 or DO-160
  • Requirements capture activities (review, parse, and translate TEMPEST, EMC/EMI, and power input requirements)
  • Documentation support for each assigned project including
  • Preparation and review of TEMPEST control plans and test procedures
  • Preparation and review of Electromagnetic Interface (EMI) control plans, test procedures, and test reports
  • Contribute to the development of the Electromagnetic Environmental Effects (E3) Integration and Analysis Report (E3IAR)
  • Generate repeatable test procedures and physical test setups with test equipment and appropriate data recording using a variety of military and commercial industry standards
  • Develop and review TEMPEST test reports
  • Provide support to program during Design and Development phase
  • Coordination and scheduling of in-house or external test activities
  • Validation of all laboratory test setups and methods to ensure compliance with test procedures and applicable standards during the test phase
  • Interface with project engineers, as necessary, to support program activities
  • Operate and learn the system under test and master the systems that are being tested
  • Conduct/lead day-to-day TEMPEST testing activities working independently on multiple projects and multiple tasks
  • Generate and review TEMPEST test data during testing
  • Apply electromagnetic principles to perform TEMPEST or EMC analysis and/or testing to verify radiated and conducted electromagnetic compliance of aircraft or other electronic systems or subsystems.
  • Apply electromagnetic principles to document and solve complex problems
  • Assist project engineers with gathering, setting up, and collecting data for ad-hoc evaluations outside of the testing events
  • Provide mentoring to junior TEMPEST – EMC/EMIElectrical Engineers

Basic Qualifications

  • Active and transferable Top Secret Security Clearance with capability to obtain Special Access Clearance is required prior to start date
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 14 years of relevant experience
  • Must be active in TEMPEST testing in the last 2 years and submitted TEMPEST reports for approval
  • Must have a valid CTP-II certification and the CTP Level II certification must be valid for at least 1 year from the date of application of this position
  • Experience developing EMI qualification test procedures and reports as well as supporting qualification testing in an EMI laboratory
  • Must be responsive to customer’s needs and able to work with multiple customers on a day-to-day basis
  • Must be willing to be on call for security related calls and willing to assume custodial responsibilities for the lab, as needed
  • Must be an expert user of oscilloscopes, signal generators, and other test equipment needed to conduct TEMPEST testing
  • Must be detail oriented and a team player

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experienced and familiar with NSTISSAM TEMPEST/1-92 specification.
  • Experienced and familiar with CNSSAM TEMPEST/01-02
  • Experienced in TEMPEST testing of communication, display, and advanced computer systems, at a minimum
  • Be capable of hands-on troubleshooting using engineering lab equipment (oscilloscopes, signal generators and other test equipment needed to conduct TEMPEST tests)
  • Knowledge of digital signal processing
  • Possess excellent communication skills, including the ability to write technical material and present to customers and mid-level managers
  • Be self-directed, able to meet cost, schedule, and performance objectives with minimal oversight

The salary range for this role is 118,000 USD - 246,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
