About The Role
The Senior Hardware Data Acquisition Engineer will design, develop, procure, install and commission Data Acquisition systems that are part of a large science data gathering system. The successful candidate will work closely with Machine Control, Plasma Control and Data Science teams.
- Integrate Data Acquisition system with Copernicus diagnostic suite, control infrastructure, and the rest of the data pipeline.
- System installation and commissioning regarding signal quality and grounding integrity.
- Commissioning of systems with Machine Control, Plasma Control and Data Science teams.
- Maintain hardware and development of new supporting software and/or test suites on an as needed basis.
- System documentation and change control.
About You
- At least 5+ years' experience with site reliability engineering in a data intensive environment with the development, installation and operation of science Data Acquisition systems.
- Experience gained on large science or distributed industrial systems data gathering.
- Installation of a large number of distributed acquisition systems.
- Interfacing with science database systems such as MDSplus, Google Cloud, or other time-series database systems.
- Experience with high-speed Data Acquisition systems at rates of 100 MS/s and beyond.
- Knowledge and experience of signal quality issues, EMI/EMC used for grounding, shielding and isolation.
- Monitoring and supervision of data gathering operations.
- Knowledge of the scientific and/or control programming languages such as Python or LabVIEW.
- Experience with science database systems (e.g., MDSplus) and time-series databases (e.g., InfluxDB).
- Interest in large science or R&D projects.
Education
- Required education: B.S. in Electrical Engineering or related engineering discipline.
