Data Analyst Senior

The Opportunity
Reporting to the Head of Claims Analytics, the Senior Data Analyst will be responsible for supporting the data, reporting and analytical needs across the entire MRSI Claims portfolio. The role will involve analyzing and synthesizing claims data from multiple sources, producing high quality insights that demonstrate a full narrative and ultimately communicating to key stakeholders internally. Successful candidate would possess technical expertise in P&C insurance, strong analytical and communication skills.
The Senior Data Analyst would assume full ownership of providing descriptive analytics to various divisions within MRSI (Claims, Corporate Underwriting, Pricing, Loss Control, Actuarial and Finance) using advanced SQL queries to extract, analyze, and distribute accurate data. Senior Data Analyst would be fully responsible for the process to develop dashboards, easily digestible data visualizations and other reports to support a data driven claims operation. The Senior Data Analyst will interface with executives and senior leaders across the MRSI organization.
Key Responsibilities of this position include:
  • Collaborate with various departments within MRSI to independently respond to requests and provide business insights from claims data by producing accurate and meaningful dashboards / reports
  • Provide in-depth analysis and detailed insights to support planning, forecasting, severity management, capacity and workload management
  • Develop deep understanding of claims severity and frequency trends, drivers, and components while contributing to multiple complex analyses
  • Create new visualizations or reinvent existing Claims reports and dashboards by pulling data from different data warehouses at MRSI (ISyCL, IRDW , Snowflake, FSRI, Universal, Bridge)
  • Create process and governance documentation including data dictionaries to ensure operational continuity, assist with other data analysis activities (data cleaning, quering, visualization, etc)
  • Perform analyses on claims, identify claims data trends and communicate the results effectively
  • Develop end-to-end analytics solutions over a range of complexity: from the initial demand to the final delivery of reporting, analysis, or visualization
  • Prioritizes and responds to internal and external stakeholders in a timely, accurate and informed manner
  • Leverage visualization to communicate insights and illustrate key trends and concept
  • Successfully and professionally collaborates with peers and stakeholders who may have a comparatively limited understanding of data, reporting, systems or tools
  • Key to the success of this role will also be the ability to communicate effectively analysis that helps drive business decisions and respond to business requests independently
  • The ideal candidate will have experience working in teams, including work across analytics and data teams to produce an array of data and analytics products, including dashboards, models and digital front ends

Job Requirements:
  • BA/BS required, MS preferred in Data Science, Business Analysis, Information Technology or equivalent combination of education and employment
  • 5+ years of experience in P&C insurance industry with solid understanding of P&C Insurance data
  • 8+ years as a technical Data Analyst, with experience in advanced SQL and proficient in querying data using MS SQL Server
  • Demonstrated experience with data visualization tools such Power BI, Advanced SQL, Excel, PowerPoint Skills (screening will be conducted to asses knowledge of SQL, Power BI and Excel)
  • Proven track record of collaboration and working effectively with a multi-functional team and throughout the organization; foster an environment of shared responsibility and accountability
  • Experience in providing data driven consultation and business communication to executive leadership
  • Strong Knowledge of analyzing datasets using Excel
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving and organizational skill and mindset
  • Proactive, self-motivated and detail oriented
  • Innovative mindset to improve operational efficiencies and ability to influence change
  • Highly adaptable and able to have effective discussions with various stakeholders and partners
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to organize, plan and implement work assignments, juggle competing demands and work under pressure of frequent and tight deadlines

This role will be based in the NYC office location. The salary range posted below applies to the Company's NYC location.
The base salary range anticipated for this position is $107,700 - $158,000 plus opportunity for company bonus based upon a percentage of eligible pay. In addition, the company makes available a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, an employee wellness program, life and disability insurance, 401k match, retirement savings plan, paid holidays and paid time off (PTO).
The salary estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for candidates hired in this position in NYC. Factors that may be used to determine your actual salary include your specific skills, how many years of experience you have and comparison to other employees already in this role. Most candidates will start in the bottom half of the range.
