Position Description
Tesla’s Bay Area Prototype Machine Shop is seeking a skilled and highly motivated Sr. CNC Programmer/Machinist to join the team and contribute to Tesla’s mission.
The Prototype Machine Shop Team provides engineers and technicians across the organization with machined components as well as insight into the machining process by way of close collaboration. Through the Prototype Shop’s efforts, we help enhance components and systems design by bringing conceptual ideas to the physical world. Engineering initiatives we contribute towards range widely from pre-production vehicles, energy systems, robotics, AI, and other future-shaping products.
As a Sr. CNC Programmer on the Prototype Machine Shop Team, we look to you to program and machine the most complex and critical components to meet project and program objectives. Responsibilities
- Efficiently program, setup and run a variety of 3-axis and 5-axis CNC Mills (GF Mikron, DMG, Matsuura, Haas) in a low-volume / high-mix workflow
- Work directly with engineers to review designs, project requirements, and provide DFM feedback
- Cut materials, build tooling, design, and build fixtures, write, prove, and run programs at the machine, deburr and finish parts, measure and validate parts meet engineering specifications
- Program and machine complex components to tight tolerances in various materials with tight deadlines
- Tracking and documentation of machining processes and results when necessary
- Work as a team by openly communicating and collaborating with management, engineers, fellow team members, and suppliers through verbal, email, text, phone, and other digital communications
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace and perform work in accordance with EH&S and security policies
Requirements
- 10+ years of CNC mill programming experience redundant (Mill-Turn & EDM experience a plus)
- 5-axis programming experience (hyperMILL preferred; training provided for qualified candidates)
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of engineering drawings, documents, and GD&T
- Positive energy and attitude, with a passion for prototyping and machining
- Excellent attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work efficiently and effectively both independently and as a team with minimal supervision
- Flexible with ability to work overtime on short notice based on strategic needs of the company
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $35.00 - $55.00 per hour
