JOB OVERVIEW:
Backcountry is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Buyer to join our dynamic team at an outdoor retail ecommerce company. As a Senior Buyer, you will play a critical role in managing the procurement and purchasing activities to ensure our company maintains a competitive edge in the market. Your expertise in the outdoor retail industry and strong negotiation skills will contribute to the success of our business. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Strategic Sourcing: Develop and implement a comprehensive sourcing strategy for outdoor retail products, ensuring a wide range of high-quality merchandise is available to our customers
• Vendor Management: Identify, evaluate, and select potential vendors, build strong relationships, negotiate favorable terms and conditions, and ensure efficient supply chain management
• Product Selection: Stay updated on the latest outdoor retail trends, conduct market research, and collaborate with the merchandising team to curate a diverse and compelling product assortment
• Pricing and Negotiations: Negotiate pricing, terms, and volume discounts with suppliers to optimize costs and increase profitability while maintaining competitive pricing for customers
• Inventory Management: Oversee inventory levels, analyze sales patterns, and work closely with the inventory planning team to ensure optimal stock levels, minimize stockouts, and reduce excess inventory
• Quality Assurance: Establish and enforce quality standards by collaborating with suppliers and conducting regular product quality checks to ensure compliance with company standards and customer expectations
• Forecasting and Demand Planning: Utilize sales data, market trends, and customer insights to forecast demand, anticipate future needs, and develop effective procurement plans
• Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborate with various departments such as merchandising, marketing, and operations to align purchasing activities with overall business objectives and ensure seamless integration of processes
• Team Leadership: Provide guidance, mentorship, and support to junior members of the buying team, fostering their professional growth and promoting a collaborative work environment
• Performance Analysis: Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), analyze buying trends, evaluate vendor performance, and propose strategies for improvement to achieve sales targets and maximize profitability

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

• Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related field. A Master's degree is a plus
• Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Buyer, preferably in the outdoor retail industry, with a proven track record of success in strategic sourcing and vendor management
• Deep understanding of outdoor retail market trends, customer preferences, and industry dynamics
• Excellent negotiation skills with a demonstrated ability to secure favorable terms and conditions with vendors
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with proficiency in data analysis tools and techniques
• Proven experience in inventory management, demand forecasting, and optimizing procurement processes
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to build relationships with vendors, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and present ideas effectively
• Detail-oriented mindset with a focus on quality and an ability to identify and resolve potential issues
• Proficiency in using purchasing software and systems
