Description:The job of CTE Teacher, Sports Medicine is for the purpose of educating and preparing students for a career in an exercise related field; physical therapy, athletic training, personal training or any number of other healthcare fields. Open minded to adult sports training education
Courses to be taught:
- Exercise & Athletic Training
- Athletic Injury Prevention
- Anatomy & Physiology
- Fitness Evaluation and Assessment
- Nutrition and Wellness
Qualifications:
- 5 years of Industry experience and have ODE CTE license OR
- 5 years Industry experience and ability to obtain a CTE license within 4 years by completing the 24 hour coursework. Courswork must be started in the first 2 years of the initial license OR
- 5 years of industry experience, possess an ODE teacher license, and complete the 12 hour CTE license pathway within 4 years. Courswork must be started in the first of 2 years of the initial licesne.
Other Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor's degree desired.
- Must hold or be eligible for an Ohio teaching license with an endorsement in Sports Medicine.
- Knowledge of academic area and various teaching methodologies.
- Ability to work effectively with others.
- Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both orally and in writing.
- Effective, active listening skills.
- Organizational and problem solving skills.
- Record keeping skills.
- Classroom management skills.
- Experience working with children.
- Basic computer skills.
- Valid First Aid and CPR Certification
- Athletic Trainer Certification is preferred
- EMR Certification desired
- Supervise and provide instruction to students in the assigned area.
- Maintain students' awareness of the industries' employment needs and requirements.
- Evaluate students' performance by assessing needs, skills and knowledge and then communicate the results to students.
- Teach process skills: problem solving,critical thinking,teaming, technical writing and communication.
- Teach aspects of sport injury prevention, care of injuries, injury rehabilitation
- Performs job assignments safely for the purpose of protecting people and property
- Promote students and community wide awareness of CTE programs and recruit students.
- Help to provide work based learning experiences for students.
- Coordinate CTE Student Organization activities for local, regional, state and / or national competition.
- Works with employers and community groups to promote and advance technical skills.
- Creates an environment that is conducive to the intellectual, physical, social and emotional development of students.
- Communicates with essential staff and family members on the progress of the students.
- Provides students with clear expectations and timely feedback.
- Attend work based learning field trips
- Participate on building "teams" when requested and agreed upon
- Work closely with administrators as part of development teams to discuss and implement new practices such as "team" teaching, semester projects, etc.
- Act as department chairperson when requested and agreed upon
- Serve as a role model for students
- Assist in the selection of textbooks, equipment, and other instructional materials
- Serve on committees and cocurricular activities as agreed upon
- Supervise student teachers
- Discipline students when necessary
- Respond to routine questions and requests in an appropriate manner

- Computer
- Calculator
- Recording devices
- Copy Machine/Printer
- Smartboard, Apple TV, and or other such technology devices
