Description

Position Summary/Objective of job: 

The Spin Supervisor's main function is to oversee and supervise the spin room during ice cream production. The Spin team's goal is to produce the finished product of high-quality, premium ice cream in an efficient manner and to package the product correctly into pints and tubs. This includes pre-shift room and equipment setup, monitoring each production station, and ensuring each team member has everything they need to achieve the daily production goals. The results of a successful Spin Supervisor include maintaining a safety-first culture, driving efficiency to meet daily production goals, producing a final product that passes QA standards, making sure each station in the spin room is set up for success, and having an engaged and knowledgeable Spin Team. 

 
Essential Functions:  

  • Thoroughly review each day's production schedule and work orders to help the Spin Manager with effective production planning, reprioritization of needs, and delegation to Spin Team Members.  

  • Ensure daily production goals are met by minimizing downtime, having a plan for the day including production changeovers, ensuring the team starts on time, and monitoring the flow of the day. 

  • Effectively communicate with the Spin lead and support the Spin team to reach the day's production goals cleanly, safely, and efficiently. 

  • Identify and solve, or help Spin team solve, various production issues of mixed complexity; escalate issues to the Spin Manager or Production leadership, when necessary. 

  • Ensure all company policies, including Good Manufacturing Practices, are being followed by all Team Members. 

  • On a daily basis ensure that the Spin team have completed their sub assembly tracking sheets and weight checks tracker. 

  • Complete an end-of-shift (EOS) walkthrough of every station to ensure all finished goods, raw materials, and paper goods are correctly stored and for general cleanliness.  

  • Daily, complete and distribute an end-of-shift summary report of production outcomes, including production numbers, attendance information, and any issues to drive future production planning. 

  • Provide insights and suggestions to help improve production efficiency and flow, such as suggestions for administrative proces14s improvements, facilitating an effective space and schedule for teams to achieve better results, or identifying areas of opportunity for improved safety and cleanliness standards. 

  • Support QA team by accurately collecting, labeling, and storing ingredient samples for testing.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required. 

  • 3+ years working in commercial food preparation, manufacturing, production, or warehouse environment. 

  • 2+ years machine operating experience.   

  • 2+ years managing people in a fast-paced environment. 

  • Knowledge of pertinent local, federal, and state health and safety laws and regulations.  

  • Experience with MS Office (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint). 

 

Knowledge and Critical Skills: 

  • Fluency in English. 

  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills. 

  • Strong attention to detail. 

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. 

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to bring hospitality into all interactions. 

  • Ability to work with people of all backgrounds and identities. 

  • Comfortable working on a team in a manufacturing facility with other teams. 

  • Ability to coach, lead, and motivate Team Members.  

  • Ability to uphold a high standard of service, efficiency, sanitation, and safety.  

  • Proficient with operating a wide range of commercial kitchen equipment. 

 

Physical Demands:

  • Standing 75% of the time. 

  • Walking 25% of the time. 

  • Frequent lifting up to 35 lbs. 

  • Often lifting up to 50 lbs.  

  • Frequent repetitive motion. 

  • Will be required to regularly talk, hear and see.    

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust and focus.   

 

Work Environment:

  • The work environment is a confined space where spatial awareness is very important.  

  • The work environment is bright and well-lit. 

  • The work environment is loud due to the equipment. 

  • Room is occasionally wet when cleaning. 

  • The majority of the time will be in the production room which is between 50-60 degrees.   

  • Occasionally be in refrigerators 32-40 degrees and in freezers -15 to 0 degrees. 

  • Occasionally strong scents & odors depending on ingredients and cleaning.
