TITLE: Speech-Language Pathologist
EMPLOYMENT TERMS: 1.0 FTE; 9-Month position
SALARY CLASSIFICATION: Administrative
GENERAL STATEMENT of RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Speech-Language Pathologist may be responsible for serving multiple campuses within the District. Responsibilities include providing direct or consultative services to students to help decrease or remove disabilities related to speech and/or language to receive the full benefit of the district's educational programs. Professional collaboration and communication with teachers, other related service providers, families, and community agencies to help foster inclusive opportunities and high achievement for all students.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES:
Program Planning and Evaluation
- Speech and language program to meet the needs of communication-impaired children as designated by each student's Individual Education Plan.
- Schedule the Speech and Language Program in cooperation with Exceptional Student Services (ESS) staff and general education staff.
- Implement the speech and language program to provide remediation in speech and language to qualifying students.
- Maintain a current evaluation of all students in the speech and language program.
- Assist in the evaluation of materials.
- Submit budget request needs.
- Maintain program inventory of equipment and supplies.
- Participate in developing of District in-service education program.
- Participate in assessing children's needs in the areas of speech and language.
Communication
- Maintain lines of communication with:
- Staff Teachers
- Grade-level chairman
- Students
- Parents
- ESS Coordinator
- Principals
- Speech/Language Pathology Assistants
- Types of Communication:
- Faculty meetings
- Grade-level and special education meetings
- Dissemination of pertinent announcements and procedures
- Parent-student-teacher conferences
- Professional literature
- Relate to the Site Principals and ESS coordinator all items of school concern
- Submit reports to the administration and the ESS department as requested
Professional Preparation and Growth/Staff Development
- Possess a broad knowledge of speech and language therapy and able to transfer this knowledge into program activities.
- Responsible for maintaining his/her personal growth and development in the areas of special education and speech and language therapy.
- Subscribe to professional literature pertinent to speech and language and/or special education.
- Willing to participate in self-evaluation activities in order to improve one's professional outlook.
Supervision
- Maintain proper and adequate supervision of students at all times.
- Assist in supervising students in related extra-curricular activities.
- Provide supervision to Speech/Language Pathology Assistants
- Maintain supervision-log hours
- Provide support/guidance for treatment planning
- Review and Confirm Medicaid billable services
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology; or a combination of a Bachelor's degree in Speech and Hearing Sciences with a Master's degree in Communication Disorders or equivalent.
- Current Arizona Department of Education (ADE) Standard Speech-Language Pathologist Certification.
- Obtain and maintain a valid Arizona Identity Verified Prints (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card (AZ IVP FPCC).
- Current Arizona Department of Health Speech Language Pathologist License.
- American Hearing and Speech Association Clinical Certification of Competence preferred.
- Current National certification preferred.
- Possession of a valid Arizona driver's license at time of appointment, and throughout employment, for job-related travel.
OCCUPATIONAL CONDITION:
Low risk - Work is routinely performed in indoor environments, including exposure to noise and being on your feet for extended periods of time. May require standing in inclement weather including summer heat during routine site inspections.

The evaluation is done by the Exceptional Student Services Director.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
The Speech-Language Pathologist reports directly to the Exceptional Student Services Director.
