POSITION SUMMARY:
As noted in Kansas State Regulation, KAR 91-40-1, school speech-language pathology services means the provision of any of the following services:
- Identification of children with speech or language impairments;
- Diagnosis and appraisal of specific speech or language impairments;
- Referral for medical or other professional attention necessary for the habilitation of speech or language impairments;
- Provision of speech and language services for the habilitation or prevention of communicative impairments; and
- Counseling and guidance of parents, children, and teachers regarding speech and language impairments.
This position is part of the Special Services team and reports to assigned Building Principal(s) and Special Services Coordinator.
PRIMARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide speech/language services to a diverse population of students as stated in the student's Individual Education Plan.
- Participate in assessment of students’ educational needs in regard to communication which may include observation, interviews, standardized assessments, and curriculum-based assessments.
- Completes written reports and follows procedural guidelines as set forth by Principal and Special Education Coordinator.
- Participate in team problem solving at the General Education Intervention and Special Education levels.
- Consults and collaborates with teachers and staff on ways to modify lessons, create materials and accommodate for students’ special learning needs.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Possess and maintain licensure as a Speech-Language Pathologist in the state of Kansas.
- Excellent verbal, written and listening communication skills.
- Ability to manage job responsibilities while meeting established deadlines.
- Ability to work constructively and cooperatively with diverse groups and individual stakeholders, including families, colleagues, and the community.
- High degree of motivation, responsibility, and confidentiality
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This position requires the performance of Medium work. The position involves exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The position requires visual acuity to perform work using a computer and other technology to support instruction. The position requires a frequent amount of grasping, talking, hearing, reaching, stooping, standing, walking, and feeling, an occasional amount of balancing, kneeling, crouching, crawling, lifting, pushing and/or pulling, and some climbing. Repetitive motion with a significant amount of fine finger dexterity is required in carrying out the essential duties of this position. The position is performed in a generally hazard free, indoor environment and a clean atmosphere.
