POSITION TITLE: Special Education Long-Term Substitute Teacher FLSA: Exempt QUALIFICATIONS: Must hold proper state certification in Special Education K-12. Experience teaching middle school learners preferred. REPORTS TO: Principal and/or other Supervisor ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:Participate in curriculum review and design.Implement a variety of effective instructional strategies consistent with lesson objectives.Diagnose and evaluates student abilities and progress in a timely and consistent manner.Monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning.Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.Refer students for alternative services as provided by the District (ESL, Reading, Special Reading).Effectively implement district initiatives.Effectively collaborate with department and grade level teachers.OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS: Abide by state statutes, school board policies and regulations.Attend meetings and performs duties as assigned by administrators or supervisors.Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation.Serve on committees as assigned.Remain current on instructional practices in education.
(e.g. instructional technology) PHYSICAL DEMAND/REQUIREMENTS:Duties performed typically in school settings. Must be able to respond to the unique educational, behavioral and developmental needs of students with disabilities in a stressful setting.
This will include de-escalation support and may include physical restraint. Job may emphasize intervention with and management of aggressive and self-abusive students. Daily personal and close contact with children to provide classroom management and learning environment support is required.
Regular contact with other staff members and parents is required. Regular contact with related services providers is required. Occasional contact with medical professionals may be required.
Frequent contact with parents by phone and in person is necessary. Regularly required to speak and/or hear. Frequently required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, or crouch.
Occasionally required to use hands to handle or feel and must occasionally climb or balance. Must also frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
