General Description:
Metro Technology Centers is accepting applications for a Teacher, Multimedia Journalismwho will be responsible for the education and supervision of the students in his/her charge utilizing a curriculum that follows the Board approved, occupation-based curriculum design, which is delivered in a flexible manner as an individual student needs to dictate to develop knowledge, skills, work ethics, and compatible attitudes for employment.
General Qualification Requirements:
  • 5 years' experience in a journalistic setting.
Education/Experience: (Above requirements may be met by equivalent combination of education and experience)
  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism.
  • 2-3 years of professional writing experience.
  • Experience in research, interviewing, and storytelling.
  • Proficient with social media platforms.
  • Familiar with basic photo and video editing software.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
Representative Duties:
  1. Plans, prepares, and delivers required materials and information in assigned program in the classroom setting, following State Department of Education minimum criteria for effective teaching performance, ODCTE evaluation criteria, and Board required information and activities.
  1. Establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects and communicates those objectives to students.
  1. Studies material and prepare in advance for classes with necessary curriculum, supplies, and/or equipment.
  1. Incorporates the use of digital instructional methodologies into lesson plans including blended learning, e-learn, and other nontraditional approaches.
  1. Instructs and monitors students in the use of learning materials, equipment, and technology.
  1. Assigns and grades class work, homework, assignments, projects, and tests and provides feedback in a timely manner.
  1. Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students.
  1. Write, shoot, and edit stories for multiple platforms including TV, web, and social media.
  1. Work independently and as part of a team to generate daily content ideas, gather information through interviews and research, and produce finished stories on deadline.
  1. Shoot video and photos to accompany your stories, using basic lighting and audio techniques.
  1. Post your stories online and promote them through social media.
  1. Attend community events and functions to generate story ideas and build relationships with sources.
  1. Operate various types of equipment including cameras, computers, and editing software.
  1. Ensures all eligible students are prepared to take licensure and /or certification exams.
  1. Adapts teaching materials and methods of instruction to facilitate and expedite the skill development of each student relative or teaching his/her training objective.
  1. Maintains professional level of competence in skill areas and instructional techniques.
  1. Makes regular industry visits to develop network for skill upgrade, advisory committee development, and student job placement.
  1. Plans and conducts advisory committee meetings at least semi-annually to ensure that all training is relevant and current, utilizing a committee that has been approved by the Site Director.
  1. Maintains records and provides information on all students as required by the ODCTE, the administration, and the Board.
  1. Maintains individual program inventory of items.
  1. Demonstrates, encourages, and maintains safe conditions throughout classroom areas, cooperating fully with the District and campus safety committees and appropriate authorities.
  1. Attends workshops, conferences, staff meetings, etc., as approved and required by the administration or Board of Education.
  1. Upholds the policies and procedures of the Board of Education and supports the organizational management philosophy of the District. Works cooperatively and in harmony with co-workers and other District employees.
  1. Attends work regularly following a designated work schedule. Must be able to work extended hours and additional days/evenings as required by position responsibilities. Must be able to attend and participate in meetings and conferences as scheduled.
  1. Demonstrates dedication to working with students in an objective and fair manner regardless of handicap, race, sex, national origin, age, or socio-economic background, refraining absolutely and entirely from sexual harassment and exploitation; follows the standards of conduct and performance as adopted by the State Board of Education.
  1. Demonstrates the ability to read, speak clearly and deliver presentations; ability to operate instructional equipment; and ability to move around the classroom.
  1. Performs any duties as may be required by the administration or Board of Education, commensurate with a classroom teacher position.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Lecture and demonstrative skills.
  • Reasoning ability and the ability to instruct.
  • Experience with multimedia production, including photography, videography, and audio editing.
  • Strong interest in news and current events.
  • Familiarity with graphic design principles.
  • Ability to observe, recognizes, and interpret.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Satisfactory personal conduct and integrity.
  • Ability to work well with others.
  • Reliable, dependable, and punctual attendance.
