Spectrum Support Program Specialist

Job Responsibilities:
Coaching/Case Management/Supervision
•Coordinates support via communication, referral and collaboration with families and on and off-campus partners (i.e., faculty, academic advisors, residential life staff, disability services access coordinators, health care providers, parents, etc.) in order to ensure comprehensive, individualized support for enrolled students.
•Provides consultation to campus partners to meet the needs of autistic students in classroom and co-curricular settings.
•Coordinates the process to assess student needs and track student progress, including management of mid-semester and end of term progress reporting.
•Guides, directs and provides instruction for the work of SSP coaches (interns) to ensure consistent follow-up, timely and targeted referrals, and comprehensive support that addresses complex student needs.
•Acts as a primary coach/case manager for a caseload of students with highly complex needs.
•Provides drop-in support/coaching/guidance to students with imminent needs.
•Ensures the security and proper handling of confidential student information
Program Coordination
Provides program support in any of the following areas:
•Facilitates the recruitment, hiring, training, daily supervision, payroll, and performance evaluation of graduate student coaches and/or interns.
•Interacts with prospective students and families to Support Program participation and enrollment including coordination of program visits, management of SSP application process, and execution of new student intakes
•Leads the planning and oversees the execution of summer programming aimed at building college or career readiness
•Acts as Assessment Coordinator, tracking success indicators, evaluating program components and assessing the effectiveness of program services
•Develops and delivers comprehensive and specialized Professional Development offerings to RIT faculty, staff, and student leaders as well as training for external stakeholders.
•Provides oversight of social programming for program enrolled students and the broader autistic community at RIT.
•Facilitates SSP seminar courses related to college and career readiness
Professional Development
- Participate in ongoing professional development and/or participate on department, division and university committees, task forces and projects as assigned and appropriate for the role.
Technology
- Utilizes web based technologies such as Mycourses, SIS, Starfish, Campus Groups, Task Stream, Qualtrics in support of student success and program goals
Other duties as assigned to support the work of the program including the development and execution of initiatives aimed at meeting the program’s mission

Required Qualifications:
Education/Experience
Masters Degree in relevant field (i.e. Special Education, Counseling, Social Work, School Psychology, Higher Education, Teaching)
Minimum 3 years of professional experience working in higher education with students with disabilities. Preference given to those with professional experience working neurodivergent students and /or job seekers, or with experience in higher education.

•Knowledge of Deaf culture, American Sign Language (ASL), or willingness to learn.
Preferred Qualifications:
•Specialized knowledge, skills and expertise related to working with students with autism spectrum disorders in a higher education setting.
•Experience in teaching and curriculum development
•Experience with program assessment
•Understanding of career development for specialized populations
•Prior experience using SIS, Oracle

Job Summary:
Reporting to the Associate Director for the Spectrum Support Program, the Program Specialist leads the planning and execution of targeted curricular goals, program activities and support initiatives aimed at meeting the changing needs of autistic students at RIT, both those enrolled in the Spectrum Support Program and for programs aimed to support all autistic students.
