Primary Purpose:
The School Readiness Program Specialist will play the key role in the development of strong, collaborative relationships with the community and families with children surrounding Estella Maxey, and between the ages of 0 - school entry. The specialist will have the opportunity to build a model for this role on other campuses and launch a new phase of work for Transformation Waco, expanding and strengthening its role in family engagement and support for families. The specialist will serve as a navigator and resource for families. The primary emphasis of this position will be:
  • Deeply engaging parents in their child's academic success by coordinating consistent and meaningful parent education programs
  • Helping assure family stability through connection to wraparound services to address any issues the family may be experiencing
  • Monitor, review and evaluate data for achieving the desired outcomes of families viewing Transformation Waco as their resource to strengthen their child's School Readiness and their family's stability and their ability to advocate on behalf of the families.
  • Work closely with the Transformation Waco Executive Director of Student Advocacy to ensure developmental and academic standards are aligned

Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor's degree in education, social work, or other appropriate field
Master's degree in education, social work, or other appropriate field, preferred
CPR and first aid certification
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills with the East Waco community, the J.H. Hines community, and all social, educational, and economic backgrounds
Strong organizational and time management skills; ability to meet established deadlines
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Working knowledge of local youth/family service organizations
High degree of technology proficiency with Microsoft Suite, Google Suite, and various database platforms
Ability to plan and execute independently while still working cross-functionally within the school environment
Experience
Three to five years' experience in an educational and/or social work setting
Demonstrated experience with successful management in education, nonprofit, grant-funded, or government environment preferred
Experience in fiscal/budget management, data reporting, and management information systems
Demonstrated competence in program development, marketing, implementation, and evaluation
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
  1. Direct family outreach and cultivation of relationships.
  2. Increase understanding of the importance of family engagement in child success.
  3. Coordinate and implement a series of academic-year parent education programs.
  4. Coordinate and plan quarterly family discussion and feedback sessions.
  5. Monitor and track parent participation and family needs data.
  6. Use data to inform and improve family engagement strategies at J.H. Hines Elementary and district-wide.
  7. Work with school administrators and district personnel to increase understanding of parent concerns and issues.
  8. Coordinate and coordinate cross-functionally with the Community Schools Specialist at J.H. Hines.
  9. Cultivate relationships with community leaders within the neighborhood.
  10. Develop a relationship with other organizations for the coordination of and connection to wraparound services.
  11. Administer a comprehensive directory of wraparound services to support families and children.
  12. Assist families in connection to wraparound services.
  13. Lead weekly parenting classes.
  14. Participate in district professional development and implement content into the program.
  15. Actively pursue trainings and professional development opportunities to ensure that knowledge and skills remain relevant.
  16. Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities
Supervise and lead the School Readiness Classroom Assistants
Equipment Used:
Personal computer, calculator, copier, scanner, projector, and printer
Working Conditions:
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Standard physical activity such as periodic standing, walking, sitting, basic motor skills to access computer files for information or simple data entry. Flexible hours including frequent extended days; frequent travel within the district, community, and frequent contact with people and public presentations. Maintain emotional control under stress, work with frequent interruptions. Constant contact by phone and in person with the public and school district employees. Continuous sitting, standing, bending, stooping and wrist flex extension.
