Program: Early Childhood Education
Position: School Readiness and Professional Development Coordinator
Location: Head Start Office - San Marcos, Texas
Status: Regular Full-Time
Schedule: Mon-Fri; 8AM-5PM
Salary: $2,133.91-$2,618.89 Biweekly

MISSION:
Helping Central Texas improve economic self-reliance through a wide range of services and community partnerships.
STRATEGIC FUNCTION:
Planning, Organization, and implementation of Head Start program to ensure quality services and outcomes. Collect and evaluate program child outcome data, develop comprehensive reports to inform continuing program improvement and drive staff and family development systems. In collaboration with all content managers coordinate staff and family development activities.

Reports to: Head Start Program Director.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
May include the following:
  • Demonstrates knowledge of Head Start/Early Head Start Performance Standards and Texas Early Learning Guidelines.
  • Maintains content area expertise and knowledge of evidence-based practice and trending issues related to early childhood and family engagement
  • Promotes continuous quality improvement and quality assurance efforts for the agency
  • Oversees the appropriate execution of all student and classroom assessment tools and coordinates effective protocols to analyze and properly utilize the resulting data.
  • Work in collaboration with Head Start Management team to ensure quality of services and promote kindergarten readiness for all children and families.
  • Collects program data through monitoring visits to the sites, completing quality classroom assessments to identifying staff areas of strength and development needs.
  • Collaborates with Head Start Management Team in the development and delivery of employee professional activities (e.g. new employee orientation, pre-service trainings, and in-service ongoing training). Establishes learning objectives and goals for staff development sessions.
  • Oversees record keeping for staff development and School Readiness data at all sites.
  • Monitors integrity and confidentiality of assessment databases.
  • Develops and demonstrates the ability to utilize all technology and technology protocols associated with Head Start Program including but not limited to: laptop, data management databases, comprehensive data analyses systems, etc.

  • Have knowledge and be willing to learn about assessment tools commonly used in early childhood settings including CLASS, DRDP, CLI Progress Monitoring, ASQ, and Devereux.
  • Utilize technology in an instructional environment and be able to successfully implement technology in presentations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and related software. Experience and proficiency working on Windows based platform PC.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Adheres to the American with Disabilities Act (ADA-2010) which prohibits discriminatory actions toward children and/or adult with disabilities. In particular, children with disabilities who are enrolled in the Head Start Program as mandated by Federal Law.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all child, family and staff data in Child Plus.
  • Approach communications with teaching teams, families, and community partners with the intent to preserve relationships. Strong emphasis on investing in a trusting and supportive relationship with teachers.
  • Address a multi-faceted-multi-cultural approach for children in the classroom
  • Guides Site Supervisors in the following areas to assure compliance with all required standards:
  • The proper use of assessment tools and tying assessment to the curriculum
  • Methods of individualization for children in the program.
  • The development of systems to ensure compliance with all regulations.
  • Tracks child progress at all centers.
  • Ensures all developmental screenings are completed, entered into Child Plus, and appropriate services are planned for each individual child at all centers within first 45 days.
  • Works with the Education Team to meet needs of children with developmental delays.
  • Collaborates with Child Development Coordinators/ Instructional Coaches to ensure that recommendations to teachers regarding specific needs of individual children are properly implemented and supported with teacher training.
  • Train teaching staff including:
  • Coordinate new teacher training within first 90days
  • Work in collaboration with the Education Team and the Site Supervisors to coordinate training for all new teachers individually and/or in small groups to help them learn how to prepare lesson plans, conduct required screenings, conduct ongoing assessments and individualize for each child.
  • Coordinates pre-service and in-service training for all teaching staff.
  • Assist teachers in the Child Development Associate (CDA) renewal process.
  • Ensures compliance with the Head Start Performance Standards, The Head Start Act, the Minimum Standards for Child Care Licensing, and the agency policies and procedures.
  • Oversees the implementation of all program monitoring protocols including, but not limited to: CLASS, ITERS, and the Environmental Circle Checklist, as well as supports planning for OHS Monitoring visits.
  • Report all suspected child abuse to the Child Abuse Hotline at 1-880-252-5400.
  • Supervision of Education Services Staff:
  • Oversee the responsibilities and operation of the Education Team:
  • Communicate regularly with education team to ensure effective collaboration, support, and positive working relationships.
  • Maintain instructional calendar and coaching assignments.
  • Maintain Education Procedures and Service Plan.
  • Oversee training for all Education Procedures.
  • Communicate regularly with staff in the following areas: child assessments, classroom observations, parent conferences/home visits, and curriculum implementation.
  • Act as a liaison between the other content coordinators, the site supervisors, and the education team to make sure all support needs for all staff are met.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Preferred:
  • Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or Advanced degree
  • 3 years' experience in Early Childhood field
  • 3 years supervisory experience
  • Excellent communication skills including telephone/email etiquette, listening skills and the ability to respond sensitively and empathetically to the needs of others
  • Ability to work with a diverse population
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
  • Ability to prioritize and manage work load and deadlines
  • Ability to delegate effectively
  • Previous experience in Head Start Program management
  • Bilingual (Spanish) strongly preferred
Required:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field
  • 2 years' experience in Early Childhood
  • 1 year supervisory experience
  • Required computer skills include a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and data management systems such as Child Plus; ability and willingness to learn any required management systems and applications.
  • Excellent communication skills including telephone/email etiquette, listening skills and the ability to respond sensitively and empathetically to the needs of others.
  • Ability to work with a diverse population
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
  • Ability to prioritize and mange work load and deadlines.
Physical Requirements:
  • Be able to lift 25-30 lbs.
  • Be able to walk, squat/kneel, sit on the floor, see, hear and speak with children to ensure children's health and safety.
Other Requirements:
  • At least 18 years old
  • Initial Health Exam required for all Head Start staff at the employee's expense.
  • Initial and annual TB screening are required for all Head Start staff at the agency's expense.
  • Criminal Background Check required for all Head Start staff at the agency's expense.
  • Fingerprinting required for all Head Star staff at the employee's expense.
  • Valid Texas Driver's License Class C and daily access to a vehicle.
