POSITION SUMMARY:
The Animal Resources Group at BioMarin is a dynamic, collegial, interactive group where teamwork, ingenuity, and scientific excellence are highly valued.
We are seeking a Specialist 1 with some background and experience with vivarium and animal program work and/or lab work. The successful candidate will serve as a point of contact for Vivarium Operations issues at the Petaluma site.
The candidate will be the secondary point of contact for all equipment, freezer thaws, pipettes, chemical inventory management, water baths, equipment management inventory system, washing, gas management and incubator maintenance. They will escort internal and external vendors throughout the lab. They will help lab staff set up for projects. Supplemental duties will be assigned as needed to assist the animal program functions. Some of these duties will be to assist in cage changing, take-downs and weekend health checks. The candidate will be on the emergency response team.
It is preferred this candidate is detail-oriented and eager to help and assist in the many responsibilities necessary to ensure efficient workflow in laboratory operations, facility management and compliance within industry standards as they pertain to AAALAC accreditation and USDA.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Pipette Management
• Freezer Thaws
• Internal and external vendor escorting
• Equipment PM's (internal and vendor), including repairs, deployment, and documentation.
• Lab workstation setup and Water Bath cleanings
• Controlled temperature environment support
• Capable of lifting 50 lbs
• Manage chemical inventory
• Main internal equipment inventory and facility management
• Manage Site Logistics Transportation for Vivarium Operations needs
• Capable of Incubator cleaning and setup
• Member of emergency response team activities
• Meet with Praxair and set up gases internally
• Assists husbandry team with cage changing, washing and sanitation
• Other duties assigned as necessary

EXPERIENCE:

• Associates or Bachelors in Life Sciences required
• ALAT or LAT certification from AALAS Required
• 2-3 years experience in lab
• Ability to easily work on several projects simultaneously
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in the English language
• Highly collaborative and agile in nature
• Ability to work toward established goals without daily supervision
• Excel at organizing and tracking
