- Serve as a case manager to Special Education students.
- Provide direct services as needed to students with disabilities including obtaining present levels/baselines.
- Follow up with mentors (teachers) to confirm that IEP attendance, reports, and services are being completed.
- Complete and communicate quarterly progress to families receiving Special Services through an IEP.
- Schedule IEP conferences, and other online meetings, and follow up with attendees.
- Ensure all documents are in order prior to IEP meeting (psych report, reports/goals, GE/Parent progress), including sending necessary documents to parents/guardians.
- Complete academic testing for initial and tri-annual evaluations and develop associated reports and IEPs.
- Stay current with all state and federal special education regulations (this may require attendance at state and local training/information meetings).
- Become very familiar with the IEP Plan for each student assigned to caseload.
- Work with each student in each of the identified areas of need and teach students to become more effective learners.
- Document details of each lesson and document data that supports progress or lack of progress after each lesson.
- Collaborate with each of the student's classroom mentors (teachers) and through this partnership, share skills, training, and perspectives to create an educational setting that benefits all students.
- Using current school challenges as a springboard, help students develop the habits that allow them to succeed in school and beyond.
- Provide students with academic support in all areas, including time management, test preparation, note-taking, and reading strategies.
- Work with individuals, small groups, or large groups as assigned by the Director of Special Services.
- Provide programmed practice activities and repetitions as developed by the mentor, therapist, or pathologist.
- Implement scientifically-based intervention programs.
- Ensure that parent/guardian and student communication is clearly documented, to include being available for Special Education families on an as-needed basis via phone and online.
- Monitor student grades and intervene when appropriate.
- Attend regular meetings, including synchros, Professional Development meetings, and Student Success Huddles.
- Support monthly student activities and school activities as needed.
Requirements:
- Education: BS/BA degree in a relevant field from an accredited college or university is required.
- Must have a Nevada Special Education license.
- Strong technical skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and Google G-Suite.
- Excellent communication skills, verbal and written.
- Self-starter with the ability to manage a variety of projects simultaneously with attention to detail.
- Ability to recognize the sensitive nature of issues and maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to interpret and accurately apply written and oral instructions.
- Ability to work independently and meet predetermined deadlines.
- Ability to relate to individuals from a variety of ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
- Ability to pass a criminal history and background check in accordance with NRS 388A.515.
The Special Services Coordinator is responsible for building motivation and self-confidence in students who are identified as having a disability while equipping them with strategies and tools to manage their school workload. In coordination with the Director of Special Services, he/she initiates and maintains intervention services once a need is identified. He/she supports the instructional program for students with disabilities by providing academic, behavioral, and social intervention services. He/she also provides students and parents academic support as needed.
