Program Facilitator/Educator - Independent Contractor
The mission of the Center for Humanistic Change (CHC) is to give people, especially youth, the knowledge and tools they need to make better-informed and more positive life choices through the interactive delivery of prevention education and evidence-based programming. Drug and alcohol prevention programs remain a core service.
CHC is seeking contracted Program Facilitators to deliver specialized and evidence-based curriculum to family participants in the Allentown area. This is an independent contract (1099) position. Applicants should (1) have some experience working with youth/teens and families (preferred), (2) have some level of post-secondary education, and (3) be comfortable discussing cultural group issues and have the ability to help others feel comfortable as well.
Applicants must be able to fulfill the program's duration of eight consecutive weeks, one night per week, 5:30-8:30pm. Training will be provided. Several program sessions will be planned for the remainder of 2023, and in 2024. Flexibility is preferred. Two separate programs will be conducted:
Program 1:Strong African American Families (SAAF) - People of color are encouraged to apply.
Program 2: Familias Fuertes (Strong Families) - Bilingual applicants are encouraged to apply.

Facilitators will deliver programming according to the curriculum, and meet with the program coordinator to reflect and prepare for each class. Objectives of these programs aim to educate youth and families, and include (1) promoting reduced use of alcohol and illicit drugs among youth, (2) increasing resistance to peer pressure, (3) reduce alcohol and conduct problems, (4) avoidance of risk opportunities and internalizing anxiety/depression indicators, (5) positive parent-child relationships and family attachment, (6) targeting youth protective processes such as problem solving, conflict resolution and self-regulation, and (7) connecting with one's culture and history to anchor with inspiration and achievement.
Key skills we're looking for in applicants:
- Ability to engage and retain program participants through a variety of presentation and educational strategies.
- Some knowledge of and experience with interactive/experiential learning models and managing group dynamics is preferred.
- Willingness to serve as a role model for program participants, especially concerning behaviors and attitudes that relate to program topics.
- Understanding of and respect for an individual's rights and differences in learning styles, background, beliefs, and values.
- High standard of professionalism in all aspects of program delivery.

Facilitators must have reliable transportation to and from program facilities. (If using own automobile for transportation, must maintain the minimum automobile insurance as required by law.)
